2025 PDC World Darts Championship Review

The 2025 PDC World Darts Championship delivered a showcase of talent and unforgettable darting moments.
As fans gathered at the iconic Alexandra Palace, the tournament lived up to all expectations, offering thrilling contests and some surprising results.
From stunning nine-darters to awe-inspiring comebacks, here’s a look back at the highlights from a historic World Darts Championship.

The two nine-darters
Christian Kist set the stage alight early in the tournament by delivering the first nine-dart finish of the event. Facing Madars Razma in a first-round clash, Kist achieved perfection, marking only the 15th nine-darter in the Championship’s history and the first since Michael Smith’s legendary 2023 final against Michael van Gerwen.
Though Kist ultimately lost the match, his flawless leg earned him a £60,000 prize and secured his place in the tournament’s folklore. Moments like this remind us why darts fans cherish every throw – the beauty of perfection in an unpredictable sport.
The excitement didn’t end with Kist’s heroics. Damon Heta followed suit in the last 32, producing the tournament’s second nine-darter and the 16th in its history. Facing Luke Woodhouse, Heta delivered his stunning moment of brilliance in a fiercely contested match.
However, as history often proves, perfection doesn’t always guarantee victory. Woodhouse mounted an incredible comeback, winning the final nine legs to overturn a 3-1 deficit and secure a dramatic 4-3 win. Despite the loss, Heta’s nine-dart finish cemented his legacy in the annals of darts.
Joe Cullen’s “Big Fish” moment
The third round brought another unforgettable showdown between Gerwyn Price and Joe Cullen. In a match that could easily be called one of the tournament’s finest, Price and Cullen traded blows in a dramatic battle that culminated in a sudden-death leg.
The standout moment came when Cullen landed a jaw-dropping 170 checkout – affectionately known as the “Big Fish” – to force the deciding leg. Although Price ultimately emerged victorious, Cullen’s brilliance will be remembered as one of the tournament’s defining highlights.
Peter Wright’s venomous return
Peter “Snakebite” Wright entered the 2025 championship as an outsider, but the two-time World Champion showed glimpses of his former glory. With impeccable accuracy, especially on the doubles, Wright advanced to the quarter-finals in a run which saw him secure a shocking 4-1 victory over the world number one and defending champion Luke Humphries.
In that match, Wright delivered a masterclass with a 70% success rate on doubles, a 110.93 average, and five 180s. Though he didn’t claim the title this year, his resurgence reminded fans why he remains one of the sport’s most captivating figures. Wright’s odds of winning the 2026 championship may be long at 66/1, but never count Snakebite out.
Littler lands the ultimate prize
Finally, the tournament ended on a high note with the meteoric rise of Luke Littler reaching its peak. The darting sensation outperformed his impressive 2024 showing, defeating Michael van Gerwen to land the title at just the second time of asking.
Littler’s combination of precision, composure, and raw talent drew comparisons to the legendary Phil “The Power” Taylor. With odds of 25/1 to match Taylor’s 16 World Championship titles, the future looks bright for Littler. Already tipped as an 11/8 favourite for both the Premier League and the 2026 World Championship, he’s a name fans will hear for years to come.
