UEFA Champions League Predictions And Betting Tips for Wednesday 29th January 2025

Champions League Prize Money Breakdown

The final matchday of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage is here, with eighteen games being played simultaneously, we’re in for lots of drama throughout the evening.

Just one point separates Aston Villa and Celtic, with the two sides battling it out at Villa Park in hope of putting themselves into the top eight.

Elsewhere, Barcelona will be hoping to pip Liverpool to the top spot when they face Atalanta, Brest and Real Madrid will also battle it out with both sides still able to finish in the top eight. It would take something extraordinary for Arsenal not to finish in the top eight, they travel to Girona, whilst Inter must avoid defeat to Monaco to confirm their automatic qualification spot.

It’s a must win for Manchester City, anything other than a victory against Club Brugge would see City exit the competition, Liverpool travel to PSV knowing a draw will be enough for the Reds to top the league phase. Stuttgart occupy the final play-off place and welcome PSG, who themselves must win to guarantee a play-off spot, although a draw could be enough.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some betting angles for some of Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League fixtures:

Aston Villa v Celtic – Wednesday, 8pm

  • Aston Villa had a real grip on the top eight but having won just one of their last four Champions League games, they are now ninth on goal-difference.
  • The Villans come into this fixture without a win in their last three games in all competitions, including their most recent 1-1 stalemate here against West Ham.
  • It’s likely that only a win here will be enough for Aston Villa to qualify automatically and avoid an unwanted play-off fixture.
    ——————————–
  • Celtic also have a chance of claiming a top eight spot here with a victory but so much has to get in their favour, it’s extremely unlikely.
  • Brendan Rodgers’ side will want to make their play-off fixture as favourable as possible, that means finishing as high as they can.
  • Celtic haven’t won away from home in the UEFA Champions League in any stage since July 2019, eleven trips ago.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Celtic, Aston Villa to win & Under 3.5 goals.

Barcelona v Atalanta – Wednesday, 8pm

  • Barcelona have already secured their place in the last sixteen, only a victory here would be enough to see Barca finish top but also need Liverpool to lose.
  • Hansi Flick became the second fastest coach to reach 100 goals with Barca after a 7-1 victory on Sunday, they’ve now scored at least five goals in four of their last five games.
  • Barca have won all three of their UCL home games this campaign, conceding just one in the process.
    ——————————–
  • Three wins in their last four UCL games has put automatic qualification in Atalanta’s hands, they head to Spain in seventh place but just one point from ninth.
  • La Dea had gone five games without a win before their 5-0 victory against Sturm Graz, followed up with a 2-1 win on the road against Como on Saturday.
  • First meeting between the two clubs but expect goals, Barca have seen all of their seven UCL games so far produce at least three goals.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Barcelona to win, Barcelona 4-2 Atalanta

Brest v Real Madrid – Wednesday, 8pm

  • Brest have had a brilliant debut in the UEFA Champions League, they sit outside the top eight on goal-difference but are guaranteed a play-off spot.
  • The Pirates have lost just one of their last twelve games on home soil, with victories coming in nine of those.
  • Six of the last eight games for Brest at home have seen both teams find the back of the net.
    ——————————–
  • A 5-1 victory against RB Salzburg last week secured Real Madrid a play-off spot after a fairly difficult campaign so far for Los Blancos.
  • Carlo Ancelotti’s side have already played in France during this UCL campaign, they were defeated 1-0 away to Lille back in October.
  • Kylian Mbappe secured his first Real Madrid hat-trick on Saturday evening, the Frenchman has now scored eight in his last five games.

Prediction: Brest 1-3 Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe to score 2 or more.

Girona v Arsenal – Wednesday, 8pm

  • Girona’s debut in the Champions League hasn’t gone to plan having won just one of their seven outings so far, with six defeats.
  • Blanquivermells are playing for pride now but will need to improve on recent performances if they are to upset the odds in this one.
  • Michel’s side have scored just four goals during their UCL campaign, only Young Boys and Bologna have scored less.
    ——————————–
  • Arsenal have all but secured their place in the last sixteen, a draw here would confirm that but they’ll be hoping a win here will be enough to leapfrog Barca into second.
  • Mikel Arteta’s side have only conceded twice in their seven UCL games so far, only Inter (1) have conceded less.
  • Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to four games with a 1-0 victory away to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon in a controversial game.

Prediction: Girona 0-2 Arsenal, Arsenal To Win & BTTS No.

Inter Milan v Monaco – Wednesday, 8pm

  • Inter Milan sit just behind Arsenal in fourth place on goal-difference, a draw here will be enough to rubber stamp their place in the last sixteen.
  • Inter have won all of their three games at the San Siro in this UCL campaign, they are still yet to concede a goal here in the UCL.
  • Another clean sheet here would see Inter become the first team since Atletico Madrid in 2016 to keep five consecutive UCL clean sheets on home soil.
    ——————————–
  • Despite securing a play-off place, Monaco still have it all to play for as they sit outside of the automatic qualification places only on goal-difference.
  • Les Rouge et Blanc have struggled on the road in recent weeks, having won just one of their last eight away games.
  • I’m not expecting too many goals in Italy, seventeen of Inter’s last twenty-two UCL games have produced less than three goals.

Prediction: Inter 1-0 Monaco, Inter To Win & BTTS No.

Manchester City v Club Brugge – Wednesday, 8pm

  • Not many people would have thought Manchester City would enter the final matchday of this UCL league phase needing a win to avoid an early exit from the competition.
  • Pep Guardiola’s side bounced back from their disappointing trip to Paris with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday despite falling behind after three minutes.
  • Man City should continue their winning run given they’ve not lost a UCL game here at the Etihad Stadium in their last thirty-three matches.
    ——————————–
  • Club Brugge must avoid defeat in order to confirm their place in the play-off round of this UCL campaign.
  • Nicky Hayen’s side could still find themselves in the play-off round with a defeat but will need results elsewhere to in their favour.
  • These two sides met back in 2011 in the UCL group stage, with Man City winning both games 5-1 and 4-1 respectively.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Club Brugge, Omar Marmoush to score anytime

PSV v Liverpool – Wednesday, 8pm

  • PSV need just a point here to make sure of their place in the UCL play-off round, although it would take a huge defeat here to put them in any danger.
  • A 3-2 victory in the Eredivisie against NAC Breda on Saturday made it just one defeat for PSV on home soil in their last fifty-three outings, which is incredible.
  • That record could be in danger here though as they’ve never beaten Liverpool, they’ve lost their last five meetings with the English side.
    ——————————–
  • Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions on Saturday with a comfortable 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town.
  • Arne Slot’s side sit at the top of the UCL league phase after the first seven games, three points clear of Barcelona means even a draw here would be enough for the Reds to secure that top spot.
  • The Reds have left a few of their big hitters at home for this trip.

Prediction: PSV 2-1 Liverpool, Both Teams To Score & PSV to win.

Stuttgart v Paris Saint-Germain – Wednesday, 8pm

  • Prior to kick-off, Stuttgart occupy the final play-off place in the UCL group stage, they sit twenty-fourth on ten points and two ahead of Manchester City.
  • Stuttgart were beaten 2-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday and won’t be full of confidence here as they’ve won just one of their three UCL games on home soil so far.
  • Die Roten have lost just two of their last ten games in all competitions.
    ——————————–
  • PSG beat Manchester City 4-2 in their last outing despite being 2-0 down, that result set up an almost “winner takes all” fixture here in Germany.
  • Luis Enrique’s side couldn’t add to that win on Saturday night with a 1-1 draw against Reims despite being the heavy favorite’s, all will be forgiven with a victory here.
  • Ousmane Dembele has scored eight goals in his last seven games, including at least one in each of his last four outings.

Prediction: Stuttgart 1-2 PSG, Ousmane Dembele to score anytime.
