Championship Predictions And Betting Tips for Saturday 8th March 2025

Gary Lineker

A FULL programme of EFL matches this coming weekend is prompting intense Championship betting interest.

Five points separate the leading three sides and that push for the Play-Offs is hotting up too. But the bottom three are seemingly cast adrift.

Here are the pairings I am looking forward to most alongside considered score predictions to assist your football betting

Sheffield United v Preston North End

Rankings: 2nd versus 15th

2024/25 Championship Head to Head

Friday 9th August 2024: Preston North End 0-2 Sheffield United

Sheffield United – Three points under pole position after five wins in six EFL games. I watched their 2-1 victory at Queens Park Rangers from the Loftus Road press box last Saturday.

Despite plenty of QPR pressure, the Blades deservedly won thanks to being clinical in the final third. Tyrese Campbell’s thunderous 25 yard left footer into the roof of the net clinched matters and is one of our Championship’s top goals of the season in my opinion.

Preston North End – Four matches bereft of winning in the EFL interspersed by a moral boosting 3-0 FA Cup triumph against Lancashire rivals Burnley at Deepdale. Preston have drawn 16 League fixtures which is the joint highest tally in the second tier.

Score prediction: Blades blunted 0-0.

Burnley v Luton Town

Rankings: 3rd versus 22nd

2024/25 Championship Head to Head

Monday 12th August 2024: Luton Town 1-4 Burnley

Burnley – Two points off those automatic promotion rungs protecting the division’s final remaining unbeaten home record.

The Clarets haven’t lost for 22 Championship engagements dating to 3rd November whilst cherishing the entire Football League’s best defensive rearguard leaking merely 10 goals in 35 fixtures. Even so, Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Cardiff City saw Scott Parker’s men concede for the first time in 13 EFL games.

Luton Town – Five points beneath the dreaded dotted line. Last Saturday’s 1-0 home success over Portsmouth terminated a 13 match winless streak in all competitions incorporating 10 defeats.

Score prediction: Clarets charisma 3-0.

Sunderland v Cardiff City

Rankings: 4th versus 21st

2024/25 Championship Head to Head

Saturday 10th August 2024: Cardiff City 0-2 Sunderland

Sunderland – Eight points below second place. The Black Cats overturned two successive defeats by returning to winning ways 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday of last week.

Cardiff City – Fourth bottom but holding a five point cushion above the relegation area. It follows one maximum pointer among six EFL encounters.

Score prediction: Black Cats purring 3-2.

Coventry City v Stoke City

Rankings: 5th versus 20th

2024/25 Championship Head to Head

Saturday 10th August 2024: Stoke City 1-0 Coventry City

Coventry City – Eight wins in nine matches have propelled Frank Lampard’s Coventry into Play-Off contention.

Stoke City – A return of former Coventry City boss Mark Robins to the CBS Arena in charge of Stoke City. Robins will want to improve on one victory during six ongoing League and Cup games with the Potters.

Score prediction: Sky Blues superb 4-1.

West Bromwich Albion v Queens Park Rangers

Rankings: 6th versus 14th

2024/25 Championship Head to Head

Saturday 10th August 2024: Queens Park Rangers 1- 3 West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion – Three games undefeated for Albion including a great 1-1 scoreline away to high flying Leeds United. However 16 draws overall keep them level on points with the Play-Off chasing pack.

Queens Park Rangers – Five losses in the past seven matches extinguished any outside hopes of Rangers reaching the Play-Offs. Midfield man Sam Field could miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury.

Score prediction: All square 1-1.
