Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys Handicap Chase Betting Preview – Cheltenham Day 3 Tips (2025)

The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys Handicap Chase is the final race on Day 3 of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and 24 runners have been declared for one of the biggest horse racing betting heats of the season.
We’ve known the early entries for the Kim Muir for some time now but decisions have been made and all eyes will be on Prestbury Park on Thursday afternoon.
Here, we look at some of the leading players in the Cheltenham odds for this year’s race, with a Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys Handicap Chase selection ahead of the 2025 renewal.
We have a relatively short priced favourite in Johnnywho and punters have already latched onto the Derek O’Connor / JP McManus combination – with the two joining forces to win last year’s race with Inothewayurthinkin.
The Jonjo & AJ O’Neill-trained gelding was brilliant at Carlisle on debut and he has been given a couple of tentative rides over an inadequate trip. It makes you wonder if this race has been a long term target and – if so – he could be difficult to beat.
Walking On Air was running a huge race when falling at Doncaster in January and he can go close here if fully over that mishap. Gary Brown isn’t a household name in the racing world but he’s had two winners over the past 10 days and that bodes well.
In addition, Alan O’Sullivan is booked to ride and he’s a jockey in form. The brother of Michael O’Sullivan, it’d certainly be an emotional victory for the racing community if he was to steer Walking On Air to victory on Thursday evening.
Midnight Our Fred has form that ties in with the likes of Perceval Legallois and Nick Rockett and that would put him bang in contention. He runs off a British mark of 132 and that could turn out to be very lenient indeed.
He has plenty of course form in the book, finishing second around Cheltenham on three occasions – including twice on the New Course. The drying ground is a big positive for him as many of his rivals would like it softer underfoot.
One who would prefer softer ground is Git Maker, however he still has a chance of going one better than he managed in last year’s race. He has some excellent form in the book and he runs off a similar mark to 12 months ago.
Jamie Snowden has always insisted that this horse prefers cut in the ground and he has the option of running in the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter on Saturday. I’d be a little concerned about current conditions for him.
I’m expecting MUSIC OF TARA to run a big race and the booking of Rob James is a positive for his chances. There are several amateur riders that I would place above most others and James has more experience than many of his peers.
Most of her form has come on soft ground but she’s unexposed at the trip and I wonder if stepping up in distance will bring out further improvement. She’s a huge price and for me she’s a decent each way option.
SELECTION: MUSIC OF TARA (E/W)
