Mares Chase Betting Preview – Cheltenham Day 4 Tips (2025)

The Mares Chase is the third race on Day 4 of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and 9 runners have been declared for one of the biggest horse racing betting heats of the season.
We’ve known the early entries for the Mares Chase for some time now but decisions have been made and all eyes will be on Prestbury Park on Friday afternoon.
Here, we look at some of the leading players in the Cheltenham odds for this year’s race, with a Mares Chase selection ahead of the 2025 renewal.
Since making its debut at the Festival in 2021, the Mares’ Chase has been dominated by the Irish. Will the result be any different in 2025?
ALLEGORIE DE VASSY and Dinoblue faced off in dress rehearsal for Mares’ Chase clash at Cheltenham at Naas last month and it is highly probable that they will finish 1-2 in this encounter too, but in which order?
The JP McManus-owned mare Dinoblue was one of the top two-milers around last season and finished second to El Fabiolo in the Dublin Chase before being unable to reel in Limerick Lace when stepped up in trip for the Mares’ Chase.
This season she finished ten lengths behind Energumene in the Hilly Way at Cork but was disappointing when well beaten into fourth by Solness over Christmas.
Dinoblue is more of a natural two-miler than her market rival, so you do have to worry slightly about this 2m4½f trip with her.
The race Allegorie De Vassy won on New Year’s Day at Fairyhouse is probably the best pointer to who will get the better of any head-to-head here.
Paul Townend bounced her out in front in the Grade 3 Mares’ Chase with none of her rivals able to live with her. She came home 25 lengths clear of Limerick Lace, one of the mares to beat her in last season’s Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham, so she certainly sent out a determined message to her peers.
Of the others, our William Hill racing ambassador Gavin Cromwell said at the weekend: “ Brides Hill will only run if the ground is nice and if it’s not she won’t run. That said, she’d probably be my dark horse to look out for because if she does get her preferred conditions then I’d say she’ll have a chance here.”
Tom Symonds was delighted to finally get a win out of Royale Margaux at Warwick last time.
The seven-year-old is a half-sister to the Grade One winner Royale Pagaille, but since joining the yard from France in January 2023, she had been winless in 14 runs.
She was running a career best in the Listed event and was fortunate enough to cash in when You Wear It Well tumbled at the last.
Naturally this Grade 2 is another step up in class, but she is rising up the ladder at a rate of knots and deserves her place in this championship race.
SELECTION: ALLEGORIE DE VASSY (WIN)
