Premier League Darts: Night Nine Preview

The Premier League Darts heads to Berlin’s Uber Arena on Thursday, 3rd April, for Night Nine of the competition.
This marks the first time this season that the tournament ventures outside the British Isles, bringing top-tier darts action to German fans. Notably, the matches will commence an hour earlier than usual, starting at 6pm UK time to accommodate the time difference.

Tournament Format
The Premier League Darts operates on a league system, with players earning points based on their performance each night. The top four players at the end of the league phase will advance to the playoffs, culminating in the final at The O2 arena in London on May 29.
Nathan Aspinall vs. Stephen Bunting
Nathan Aspinall has been consistently solid this season but needs a strong finish in the second half of the league to secure a playoff spot. Known for his fighting spirit and ability to grind out wins, Aspinall will look to put Steven Bunting under pressure early and is backed to defeat the Bullet at 4/5.
Bunting has had a frustrating campaign, failing to secure a win so far. His scoring power is undeniable, but he has struggled with finishing in key moments. A win over Aspinall would give him a much-needed confidence boost as he looks to secure his first point this season; he’s EVS to beat the Asp.
Luke Humphries vs. Rob Cross
Luke Humphries is currently second in the table and has been playing some of the best darts of his career. He has won multiple major tournaments in the past couple of years but most recently landed the Masters to get his year off to a flying start. If he is to have any chance of beating Luke Littler to the Premier League title, he’ll need to up his night wins, starting against Rob Cross, where he’s odds-on at 4/9 to reach the semi-finals in Berlin.
Cross has shown glimpses of his best form this season but has lacked consistency. As a former World Champion, he has the ability to beat anyone on his day, but he needs to improve his doubles if he wants to take down Humphries. He’s the underdog going up against Cool Hand at 7/4.
Chris Dobey vs. Luke Littler
Chris Dobey started the season strong but has struggled to maintain his form in recent weeks. He is an aggressive player who thrives on fast-scoring legs, but he’ll need to be at his absolute best to challenge the defending champ and he’s the outsider at 9/2.
Littler has been the standout player of the Premier League so far, sitting comfortably at the top of the table, extending his lead by winning Night Eight in Newcastle. His power scoring and fearless approach make him a nightmare for opponents and he’s the overwhelming favourite in this match at 1/7. If he continues his recent form, he could cruise through to another final.
Michael van Gerwen vs. Gerwyn Price
Michael van Gerwen has had an up-and-down campaign but remains one of the most dangerous players in the league. The Dutchman thrives in the Premier League format and will be looking to remind everyone why he has won the tournament six times, even more so against Gerwyn Price, who’s he’s priced at 4/5 to beat this time around.
Gerwyn Price has struggled with consistency this season and is under pressure to pick up points. The Welshman is one of the most passionate players on the circuit and will look to use his aggression and intensity to unsettle Van Gerwen. He’s the narrow underdog at EVS to defeat the Green Machine.
Wayne Mardle fancies there to be a 170 in the Quarter Final session in Berlin and it could well come down to this game – luckily MVG is no stranger to reeling in the Big Fish. As such, we’ve boosted the price on At Least 1 170 Finish In The Quarter Final Session from 7/2 to 9/2.
Tournament Favourites
Understandably, Luke Littler is favourite to claim the Premier League title this year at 8/11, following his success in the competition last year as well as his recent PDC Championship title haul. ‘Cool Hand’ Luke Humphries narrowly trails ‘The Nuke’ at 5/2, followed by league-veteran Michael van Gerwen at 7/1. Gerwyn Price is 8/1, while Rob Cross is 16/1, followed by The Asp at 25/1. Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting are outsiders to claim the title at 100/1 and 200/1 respectively.
