The UEFA Europa League quarter-final stage will conclude this week, with just four teams progressing into in the semi-final.

@Footy_Tipster gives his best predictions ahead of this round of fixtures in the UEFA Europa League..

After a season of nightmares, Manchester United are hoping to make Old Trafford a “theatre of dreams” again on Thursday night, they face Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final after the two sides played out a 2-2 stalemate last week in the first leg.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some betting angles for Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League fixture:

Manchester United v Lyon – Thursday, 8pm

  • Manchester United well and truly have all their eggs in one basket this season, a fourteenth league defeat of the season on Sunday (4-1 v Newcastle) leaves the Red Devils in fourteenth and just three points clear of seventeenth, their only way to secure any sort of European football next season is by winning this competition.
  • That means that United’s whole season may as well be over if they don’t progress on Thursday but they could take some confidence from their record against French sides (W17, D10, L4).
  • Ruben Amorim’s side have conceded first in ten of their sixteen league games at home this season along with their last two Europa League games, which will be a concern on a night in which they need to keep the crowd on their side.
    ——————————–
  • Lyon travelled to Auxerre on Sunday evening, a 3-1 victory moved Paulo Fonseca’s side up to fourth in Ligue 1 by a single point to occupy that final UEFA Champions League spot with just fives games left to play.
  • The Kids have been impressive on the road on their European travels, they’ve lost just one of their last fifteen away games in the competition, progressing here on Thursday would secure their first UEL semi-final since 2017.
  • We should be in for goals at Old Trafford, Lyon have seen both teams score in seven of their last to UEL fixtures, whilst the same outcome has occurred in nine of Manchester United’s eleven UEL fixtures.

Prediction: To Win On Penalties – Manchester United (14/1 – *odds subject to change – prices correct at the time of writing*)
