Jamie Vardy, an iconic figure in the world of English football, has completed a free transfer to Serie A side Cremonese.

The 38-year-old has signed a one year deal in Italy’s top flight, with the newly-promoted club looking to avoid relegation this campaign. If he is able to help Cremonese stay in Serie A, he may be rewarded with an additional year on his contract.

Jamie Vardy’s fairy tale career with Leicester came to an end earlier this year. Waving goodbye on his 500th appearance and with his 200th goal, Vardy hit the free-agent market at 38 years of age.

Scottish football betting favourites Celtic, Rangers, Everton, and Inter Miami have been linked with Vardy. The latter is a far-fetched proposal, with the Floridian franchise reportedly not interested in pairing Vardy with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

A reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic is an easy link to make, but Sky Sports don’t believe any negotiations have taken place.

“We do understand that, even though there is that stunning story linking Vardy with a return to Brendan Rodgers and to go to Celtic, there haven’t been actually any discussions yet, or any contact between Celtic and Vardy.”

Big-Spending Wrexham

Bankrolled by Hollywood stars, Wrexham have continued to spend after their promotion to the Championship. They are immediately in the mix in the Championship betting markets.

The Welsh club have added Nathan Broadhead, Lewis O’Brien, Conor Coady, and various other players this summer, but Vardy would be the most famous addition to date.

The signing of Kieffer Moore might indicate Wrexham aren’t interested in a move for Vardy. It hasn’t stopped the speculation, however, and there’s no question Vardy would love the attention that comes with playing for Wrexham.

Sky Sports initially reported Vardy remains fixed on playing in the Premier League or another top European league, but those opportunities are drying up, aside from a stunning link with Napoli.

Celtic Switch

Several tabloids reported on Tuesday that Vardy has his ‘heart set’ on a move to join up with Rodgers at Celtic.

Vardy’s wages could be an issue for the Scottish giants, though, and they are set to face competition for his signature from several Premier League clubs, including Everton, Brentford, and West Ham.

The Hammers are in dire need of goals under Graham Potter. Everton need to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Brentford have waved goodbye to Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa could follow him out the door.

On Sky Sports, Michael Bridge talked up the prospect of Vardy ending his career in Glasgow.

“All I will say is, whatever side of Glasgow Jamie Vardy would end up joining, wow. I cannot wait to watch it. Because, you know, he loves the wind people up. Like every time he’s got an away game, Palace away, does the Eagle and all that. It’ll be great fun.

“And of course, I’m sure he’s kept himself fully fit over the last few years. I’m absolutely surprised he’s not made the move yet. But of course, he will have a great relationship with Brendan Rodgers as well. So that’d be a really intriguing move.”

Calls For Everton Move

Despite being less than 18 months away from his 40th birthday, Vardy has become a popular pick among pundits for clubs in need of a new striker.

Alan Stubbs was asked whether Vardy is worth a punt for Everton.

The former defender responded, “Oh 100 per cent. I think he’s very different to what we’ve got as well. We’ve got two very similar strikers, two big lads but we haven’t got anyone who’s that direct and most importantly, a proven goalscorer.

“You look at Iliman Ndiaye, Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, they’re players who are looking to slide balls in down the side. They are looking for a clever player to run onto them. I’ve got to be honest, I think Vardy is a perfect player for Everton right now.”

Would Vardy take a move to Merseyside over Naples or Glasgow? Do Everton have a better offer than West Ham or Brentford? It depends what the ex-England international prioritises in the final couple of seasons of his career at the highest level.
