Super League Magic Weekend 2025 preview

We’re into the 10th week of the 2025 Super League season and Magic Weekend is upon us once again to renew some of the game’s oldest rivalries.

In 2024 the weekend was hosted at Elland Road in Leeds, but this year returns to its usual home, St James’ Park in Newcastle.

There are intense clashes across the weekend, with crucial points at stake at both ends of the table. We won’t see as many local rivalries as usual this year, but the competition is set to be as fierce as ever.

We preview this year’s Super League Magic Weekend below.

Bet on Rugby League at William Hill

Leigh Leopards v Catalans Dragons

Magic Weekend kicks off with Leigh Leopards v Catalans Dragons, a game which could be crucial in the battle for the top six. Leigh sit third in the table and head into this game as 8/13 favourites having already beaten the Dragons once this season, by a convincing scoreline of 34-6.

Catalans won’t make the near 1,000-mile trip for nothing though. They are 13/10 underdogs here but arrive in good form, having won five of their last six league games with a one-point defeat to St Helens their only shortcoming. On that basis you can’t discount them and this should be a good, hard-fought fixture to start the weekend off.

Hull KR v Salford Red Devils

The second match of Magic Weekend may not be so magical, as a convincing win for Hull KR looks a formality with their odds standing at 1/200. Salford continue to be plagued by financial troubles and head to Newcastle with a seriously weak squad, reflected in their 22/1 odds.

The Robins could rack up some serious points here and taking the 10/11 about them to win in the -36 handicap market looks the play.

St Helens v Leeds Rhinos

Saturday’s action concludes with a mouth-watering clash between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos. St Helens were out of sorts last season and sit just fifth in the table at the moment, while Leeds are level on points with them and only below on points difference.

This looks a tough one to call with St Helens 8/13 favourites and Leeds at 13/10. The match odds for either side to win don’t look great value, so we’re happier to take the 19/10 about St Helens to win by 1-12 points.

Huddersfield Giants v Hull FC

Sunday starts with the high-flying Hull FC looking to heap more despair on the still winless Huddersfield Giants. It’s no surprise to see Hull as the 1/6 favourites here, with the Giants out of sorts and out of favour at 15/4.

Hull have really turned things around after a poor 2024 season and we can’t see their upwards trajectory being halted here. Hull FC to win with a -14 handicap is the play here at 10/11.

Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves

Along with Saints v Leeds, Sunday’s second game is one of the most interesting of the weekend. Wigan are once again going about their business at the right end of the table, sitting second having won seven of their nine games. Their 48-24 defeat of Warrington earlier this year sees them head to Newcastle as 2/9 favourites to repeat that success.

Sam Burgess’ Warrington are a tough side to write off though, as they showed when bouncing back from two consecutive defeats to beat St Helens 32-18 last week. At 3/1, they could be the best value for an upset this weekend.

Castleford Tigers v Wakefield Trinity

We finish off Magic Weekend with a good old local rivalry between Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity, or Cas-Wakey, as it’s affectionately known. Just eight miles separate The Jungle from Belle Vue and both will likely take strong support to St James’ Park.

Wakefield got the better of Cas only four games ago and head into this game as 4/9 favourites. Cas, however, have since brought in a host of exciting signings and are already reaping the rewards, ending a four-game winless run with victory over Huddersfield last week. With the large majority of their squad fit and some new firepower in the pack, we fancy Classy Cas to overturn Wakey at 7/4.
