Wimbledon 2025 Dates: Start, Finish, Middle Sunday & Order Of Play
A look ahead to the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, which is one of the highlights of the sporting year for tennis fans.
Wimbledon is one of the biggest tennis betting events of the year. It drives tennis interest in the UK into a frenzy, leading to booked-out courts all over the country.
There’s nothing better for a tennis fan than a fortnight packed with tennis action at the All-England Club. The schedule makes it possible to watch almost 12 hours of tennis per day, absorbing everything from fringe first-round matches to semi-final showdowns between the world’s best players.
While Wimbledon takes place at roughly the same time each year, the exact start day changes, so let’s find out when you can start wagering on the Wimbledon in-play betting markets.
When does Wimbledon start in 2025?
Wimbledon starts on Monday, June 30 with the first round of the singles tournaments.
Doubles competitions begin on July 2 with the men’s and ladies’ first rounds.
When does Wimbledon finish?
Wimbledon finishes on Sunday, July 13. This features the men’s singles final as the headline event, along with the ladies’ doubles final.
How much does a Wimbledon ticket cost?
A centre court ticket has increased to £105 for the opening day at Wimbledon. Ground passes are £30 per person for the first eight days of the event before dropping to £25 and then £20 as the number of matches decreases in the final stages.
Centre court tickets in the front few rows are above £300 for the final weekend. Prices peak at £180 for number one court and a highest of £100 for number two court.
Does Wimbledon play on Middle Sunday?
Yes, Wimbledon has played on “Middle Sunday” since 2022. This was put down to improvements in maintenance and grass technology, meaning the surfaces across the venue do not need a day off to ‘recover’.
What happens if it rains at Wimbledon?
Rain stops play at Wimbledon. When rain begins to fall, the umpire will ask the players to leave the court and covers will be brought on to protect the surface.
Court number one and centre court are the only exceptions due to their retractable roofs. Play can continue on these courts when it is raining – only a 10-minute or so delay is required for the roof to close.
Rain inevitably plays a part at Wimbledon – it is July in the UK, after all – but scheduling has become much less of an issue since the roofs were added to the two main courts.
The waiting game can still be frustrating for players and spectators on the smaller courts, however, and there is the potential for a backlog if there is prolonged bad weather during the Grand Slam fortnight.
