Festival Friday at the Newmarket July Festival is headlined by a top level contest in the form of the Group One Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes for fillies and mares over a mile.

The race offers the first high profile opportunity for the top three year old fillies to test themselves against older rivals and is regularly one to savour.

Check out our Newmarket July Festival tips for Day 1

1.50pm – 1m2f Heritage Handicap

The Andrew Balding-trained URBAN GLIMPSE looked home and hosed at York last time out, before just being headed in the final few strides.

This half furlong drop back in distance could well be the key to putting his run of seconditus to bed, and the booking of Oisin Murphy is another positive.

The 86-rated three-year-old looks a solid bet in a compact field.

2.25pm – Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2)

SPICY MARG can put a below-par performance in the Queen Mary behind her when she takes her chance in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

Each-way punters should definitely give Michael Bell’s filly some consideration, given what the daughter of Starspangledbanner achieved on her debut, galloping home by two and three-quarter lengths on the Rowley Mile.

Bell believes there were a couple of mitigating circumstances at Ascot, so the bounce-back could well be on, at tasty looking horse racing odds too.

3.00pm – 1m6f Heritage Handicap

It was really satisfying to see INSANITY bounce back to form in a Class 2 handicap at Ayr 20 days ago, as he had struggled since winning at the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot last summer.

The five-year-old certainly looked sharper at Ayr, taking command 300 yards from home and beating off a string of challenges on the run to the post, winning by a length.

The McNeill Family-owned runner can serve punters well again over today’s 1m6f trip.

3.35pm – Falmouth Stakes (Group 1)

Aidan O’Brien has been very happy with JANUARY (NAP) since her run in the Coronation Stakes at Ascot and she heads for another prestigious race here.

She was a solid filly for Ballydoyle last year, running some great races, and she will strip fitter for her Royal Ascot engagement. She is worthy of a spot in any NAPs table.

4.10pm – EBF Maiden Stakes

There are plenty of unraced newbies lining up here, but the percentage call goes to the experienced HENGROIN for Owen Burrows.

Fourth on debut at Salisbury, then runner-up at Windsor, the youngster looks like he is crying out for this extra furlong and can put his previous racecourse nouse to good use.

The experienced Jim Crowley in the saddle is an added bonus too and this horse may feature in plenty of racing accumulators this Friday.

4.45pm – Dubai Racing Club Handicap

TWO TRIBES goes to war again on Friday, bidding to put a complete no-show here a fortnight ago, behind him.

Up until then, Richard Spencer’s four-year-old had put in three very solid performances, including one in a large Heritage Handicap, so his bad run here was very out of the ordinary.

Trading around the 8/1 mark in our online betting, Two Tribes is a confident each-way play over today’s seven furlong distance.
