AMBIENTE FRIENDLY is a somewhat high risk proposition in the opener (1.20) at Goodwood on Saturday, but the attendant rewards will be significant. He’s been gelded, and is now in a spot where he should feel pretty comfortable, provided that procedure helps him to settle properly. Whatever has been said about his requirements, the fact remains his vest performance has come over 12 furlongs with cut, a combination he’s rarely enjoyed since.
FEIGNING MADNESS looks a lively each way shot in the 14 furlong handicap (1.55), a race with any number of possible outcomes. He hasn’t appeared quite to get home the last twice, running with credit nonetheless, and is lightly enough raced to be open to a bit of progress. The rain will have helped his chance no end.
TERM OF ENDEARMENT could be the safest play in the Lily Langtry (2.30), a race she won last year when trained by Henry de Bromhead. Her new stable got a nice tune out of her at York, a performance whose merit was franked by Scenic’s subsequent effort, and two miles and fast ground wasn’t really her bag last time – Tom Marquand is back in the plate, and she should resume normal service with conditions to suit.
ANNAF must have a very decent chance of running really well in the Stewards’ Cup (3.05). This is the first time he’s run in a handicap since winning the Portland in 2023 off just a one pound lower mark, since when he’s regularly acquitted himself brilliantly all over the world. He’s super versatile ground-wise, will appreciate a return to a strongly run six furlongs, and is drawn very close to the obvious pace in Get It.
HEADMASTER gets the nod in the Whispering Angel (3.45). Beautifully bred, and progressive in fair races, he looks to have been given a very reasonable opening mark. His rider is highly regarded by William Haggas, who will be hoping to hand him plenty of winning opportunities.
