Curragh Horse Racing Tips For Today – 9th August 2025

A look ahead to every race at the Curragh on Saturday 9th August, with the Phoenix Stakes taking centre stage as the feature race of the day.
The Phoenix Stakes is a Group 1contest run over 6f and in recent times has been dominated by Aidan O’Brien, who’s landed the prize a staggering 17 times since 1998. Can he make it win number 18 on Saturday?
Here’s a full run through of the entire card:
1.45pm – 7f Irish EBF Maiden
Whilst most of the horse racing betting will be focused around the Aidan O’Brien newcomers in this race, it may be worth having a speculative punt on the Exors Of The Late Aga Khan-owned TASHAKOUR.
The Night Of Thunder-colt was unfortunate to run into a real good bunch of youngsters here on debut, but will arrive today much more streetwise. He can improve once again.
2.15pm – 6f EBF Maiden
Springcombe Park Stud have done well with their Havana Grey progeny in recent years, and trainer Jessica Harrington appears to have purchased a nice horse in the shape of UNIONVILLE.
The youngster will have a mere 29 rivals to deal with, but breeding is on his side, and I’m hopeful of a big maiden run from him.
2.50pm – 7f EBF Fillies Juvenile Race
The most experienced filly in the field MINERVA can finally get her head in front today.
The Frankel-filly should know her job by now and Ryan Moore can ride her to maximum effect.
3.25pm – 6f Phoenix Sprint Stakes (Group 3)
SPYCATCHER is very much an autumn horse, and it would come as no surprise if he won this before another trip over to his beloved Deauville at the end of the month.
Second in the 6f Group 3 Prix de Ris-Orangis in France last time out, the seven-year-old is clearly in good heart and ready to do himself justice.
4.00pm – 6f Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (Group 1 No Geldings)
TRUE LOVE (NAP) justified favouritism in the Queen Mary and has since won the Railway Stakes by five lengths. She now looks poised to land the coveted Phoenix Stakes prize.
I believe True Love’s 3lb fillies’ allowance will just tip the outcome in her favour from stablemate Gstaad.
4.35pm – 5f Handicap
Course and distance winner CUBAN GREY is an each-way sports betting proposition over this minimum distance dash.
Rory’s Mulligan’s 7lb claim will come in highly useful too.
5.05pm – 6f Handicap
AIRSPEEED looked in need of the run when returning to action at this venue last time, and can strip fitter for the effort.
Chris Hayes is a very positive jockey booking too and the pair look good for a podium spot.
5.40pm – 1m Handicap
The get out of jail stakes can go to the former course and distance scorer GOLDRUSH KID.
After a decent second over seven furlongs at Galway last week, this quick follow up run over a mile should aid his cause considerably.
