Pope Leo XIV Overtakes Trump in TIME Person of the Year Betting
William Hill have reported significant movement in the TIME Person of the Year market, with Pope Leo XIV shortening into 2/1 from 7/2, overtaking Donald Trump Sr, who has drifted to 5/2 from 6/4.
The shift means the newly-elected Pontiff is now second favourite, behind only AI, which continues to head the market at 6/4.
Trump, who was named TIME Person of the Year for a second time in 2024, is now looking to draw level with Franklin D. Roosevelt as the only person to win the award on three occasions.

TIME Person of the Year Odds:
Take a look at the latest odds for the TIME Person of the Year:
- AI – 6/4
- Pope Leo XIV – 2/1
- Donald Trump Sr – 5/2
- Elon Musk – 5/1
- Pope Francis – 6/1
- BAR – 12/1
But momentum in the market appears to be with Pope Leo XIV, whose recent rise to the papacy has captured widespread attention.
Elsewhere in the market, Elon Musk is 5/1, with Pope Francis at 6/1, and President Xi Jinping an outsider at 12/1.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Pope Leo XIV has shortened into 2/1 from 7/2 in our TIME Person of the Year betting, meaning he has replaced Donald Trump as second favourite in the market, with the US President out to 5/2 from 6/4.
“Trump was named TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year for a second time last year and another award would see him draw level with Franklin D. Roosevelt as the only person to win three TIME Person of the Year awards.
“However, both Pope Leo and Trump have Artificial Intelligence to contend with this year, with AI currently 6/4 to scoop the prize.”
