Lionel Messi Next Club Odds & Predictions (2025)

Barcelona Reunion FOr Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami contract expires at the end of the 2025 MLS season. He has an option to add another 12 months, and Inter Miami are optimistic he will extend his stay in Florida, but it’s far from guaranteed at this point.

Messi’s days of being the football betting favourite for the Ballon d’Or are a long way behind him, yet any transfer would still be massive for the footballing world.

He would unquestionably be effective in the Champions League, or he could take the romantic path back to where it all began with Newell’s Old Boys.

Barcelona are the sports betting favourites at 4/1 as of August 14. Messi has often praised Barca’s young stars, and the prospect of the Argentine GOAT linked up with Lamine Yamal is tantalising.

Guillem Balague believes a return to Barcelona is unlikely, however, due to Messi’s imperfect relationship with Joan Laporta.

Lionel Messi Next Club Odds:

Punters can bet on which club Lionel Messi will be playing for after the summer window transfer at William Hill and the current state of the market can be seen below:

  • Barcelona – 4/1
  • Newell’s Old Boys – 13/2
  • Any Saudi Club – 7/1
  • Bayern Munich – 8/1
  • PSG – 10/1
  • Manchester City – 18/1
  • Chelsea – 18/1
  • Bar – 20/1

Fairytale Conclusion

Messi is a lifelong fan of Newell’s Old Boys and started playing for the club at seven years of age. He scored over 500 goals for the club at youth levels before being picked up by Barca in 2001.

Angel di Maria, a longtime teammate of Messi with Argentina, made the move back to Argentina with Rosario Central in July. Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentinian FA, was asked about Messi potentially returning, and replied, “I hope so”.

He wouldn’t be the first South American superstar to head home for the final few seasons of his career. Ronaldinho, Pablo Aimar, and Radamel Falcao are three of many to have ended their careers in their home countries.

Unlikely Saudi Move

Messi could have moved to Saudi Arabia when he went to Inter Miami. Speculation he could team up with Cristiano Ronaldo is always going to be rife, but it doesn’t feel like a very Messi thing to do, does it?

The money might be even bigger than in MLS. Does that outweigh the damage done to his image? Why would he tear up the Pro League when he can live like a king in Miami and break MLS records for fun?

The 7/1 price is too short for any Saudi club. A reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City is far more likely.

Premier League Loan

Messi, it is believed in Argentina, is considering a loan to a more competitive league to make sure he is fully prepared for next summer’s World Cup. Could we get our first sighting of the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner in the Premier League?

A contract extension with Inter Miami, followed by a short-term Premier League loan at the start of 2026, is in play. City would be the clear favourites to land Messi, who could cover for Omar Marmoush during his African Cup of Nations absence.
