England look to maintain their unbeaten record in 2026 World Cup qualifiers when they face Serbia in Belgrade on Tuesday evening.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have a 100% record heading into their fifth qualifying fixture of the campaign, with the Three Lions yet to concede a goal in clashes with Albania, Latvia and a double header with Andorra.
Yes, the football has been dull at times but England have yet to be tested and we may learn a little more about Tuchel’s managerial skills when the going gets tough.

There’s no questioning the talent and ability in this England squad. So, what is going wrong? It’s hard to put a finger on a single issue but there is often a lack of urgency going forward, which makes England easy to defend against.
A 2-0 victory over Andorra on Saturday evening hardly inspired confidence amongst supporters, with a hostile trip to the Serbian capital expected on Tuesday night.
Despite recent criticism, England are clear favourites at 3/4 in the sports betting markets and I just wonder whether – with all due respect to the likes of Latvia, Albania and Andorra – a team like Serbia will bring the best out of this Three Lions side.
England clearly find it difficult to break through low-block defences and Tuchel’s side may adopt a more defensive-minded approach to Tuesday’s game to try and force Serbia to press on.
The theory being – the more open the game is, the more chance we’ll see a better attacking display. It’s no given that Tuchel will go for this sort of tactic but I’d like to see a more open and expansive brand of football.
