ANOTHER truly appetising episode of EFL League One action is set to unfold this weekend.

Analysing the early table positions, just one team remain unbeaten to date. Meanwhile, two struggling sides are lacking victory. So the League One betting stakes are hotting up.

Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to guide your football betting

Saturday 13th September 2025

Bradford City v Huddersfield Town

  • Kick-off: 12.30pm
  • Rankings: 5th versus 3rd

Bradford City preview – League One game of the day between two West Yorkshire rivals based 12 miles apart. Freshly promoted Bradford City lost for the first time this season in 10 League and Cup matches going down 3-1 at Doncaster Rovers last Saturday. Still unconquered on home soil producing three League One victories.

Huddersfield Town preview – Three wins among their last four EFL affairs plus a penalty shoot-out League Cup success away to top flight high flyers Sunderland and the thumping 6-2 home scoreline past Newcastle United Under-21’s in Football League Trophy duties. Decent fortunes then for new manager Lee Grant beyond his May appointment.

Score prediction: Ferocious 4-4.

Stockport County v Cardiff City

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 9th versus 1st

Stockport County preview – One win in five ongoing Championship fixtures overturning a really promising opening to the campaign.

Cardiff City preview – Undefeated in 2025/26 on five Championship wins and a draw with merely one League goal conceded. Furthermore, seven victories during eight outings throughout all competitions. In light of the recent home attendance against Plymouth Argyle reaching nearly 22,000, new boss Brian Barry-Murphy said: “I had no idea how big Cardiff City are as a club until now.”

Score prediction: Bluebirds brilliant 2-0.

Wigan Athletic v Doncaster Rovers

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 14th versus 2nd

Wigan Athletic preview – Currently nursing four winless games in Championship endeavours, drawing the past three. Unbeaten at home so far though.

Doncaster Rovers preview – Five straight victories across all competitions. Donny are seeking another promotion following on strongly from last season’s League Two title glory.

Score prediction: A point apiece 2-2.

Mansfield Town v Stevenage

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 11th versus 4th

Mansfield Town preview – The 2-0 reverse at Wycombe Wanderers last Saturday terminated Mansfield’s four match unbeaten EFL run.

Stevenage preview – Five wins amidst six League games in 2025/26 leave Stevenage one point below the leaders. Their single loss was 1-0 at Huddersfield Town on Saturday 23rd August. Jamie Reid is the division’s foremost scorer racking up five goals. Utilising one of League One’s smallest wage bills, it would be remarkable if Stevenage could gain promotion to the Championship.

On reflection, I remember how they were members of the United Counties League when I first went to see them play at Broadhall Way in 1982 under the previous name of Stevenage Borough FC.

Score prediction: Stevie wonders 3-1.

Barnsley v Reading

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 6th versus 20th

Barnsley preview – Only one 2025/26 defeat spanning all competitions which was 2-0 away to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday 23rd August. Home form includes League Cup triumphs over Fleetwood Town (on penalties) and Rotherham United.

Reading preview – One point above the dreaded dotted relegation line. Achieved their first League maximum pointer last time out edging visitors Port Vale 1-0. However, Reading boss Noel Hunt has been fined £1,000 for misconduct after being sent off from the technical area in that game.

Score prediction: Paint drying 0-0.

Luton Town v Plymouth Argyle

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 7th versus 18th

Luton Town – The Hatters have shaken off back to back relegations to amass four League 1 wins this season. Always helped by the noisy Kenilworth Road fans who are packed very close to the pitch.

Plymouth Argyle – Made a poor start to the present campaign following relegation with imminent opposition Luton Town. Nevertheless, Argyle are beginning to pick up realising two League victories in three attempts thereby relieving pressure on head coach Tom Cleverley. Both those positive results were at home and they’ve lost all three away games played.

Score prediction: Hats off for Luton 1-0.
