Championship Predictions & Betting Tips – Saturday 20th September 2025
WE head into another weekend of hectic EFL Championship action offering some tasty fixtures on the card.
Three sides remain unbeaten thereby attracting plenty of Championship betting interest. Alternatively, three teams are winless and fill the bottom three places. We’ve also seen the first managerial change of 2025/26. It was no surprise!
Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to guide your football betting.
Queens Park Rangers v Stoke City
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 12th versus 2nd
Punters can bet on QPR vs Stoke at William Hill and here is the current state of the market:
- QPR – 8/5
- Draw – 21/10
- Stoke – 8/5
Queens Park Rangers Preview
The R’s recovered really well from a 7-1 hammering at Coventry City on Saturday 23rd August by winning their last two matches against Charlton Athletic and Wrexham.
Mobile striker Richard Kone has scored in three consecutive games and is a big success following his £2.75 million transfer via Wycombe Wanderers a month ago. I like the fact that new QPR head coach Julien Stephan is willing to play two strikers whereby Rumarn Burrell partnered Kone in recent selections.
Stoke City Preview
One point off pole position courtesy of four maximum pointers across five League outings. Both away engagements resulted in victories over Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton. Even so, boss Mark Robins is calling for his team to be “more ruthless”.
Statistics show Stoke haven’t graced the Championship’s top half since 2007/08 when they were runners-up and gained promotion. Once relegated back from the Premier League in 2017/18, the Potters’ highest second tier finish has been 14th on two occasions.
QPR vs Stoke score prediction: Evenly matched 1-1.
Leicester City v Coventry City
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 4th versus 6th
Punters can bet on Leicester vs Coventry at William Hill and here is the current state of the market:
- Leicester – 29/20
- Draw – 23/10
- Coventry – 17/10
Leicester City Preview
The so-called ‘M69 derby’- a nod to the motorway connecting these two cities which are 24 miles apart. Leicester hover two points beneath automatic promotion discussions. New boss Martí Cifuentes is making his mark due to three wins amidst five Championship encounters. Both home matches have brought victories.
In light of last Saturday’s 2-2 outcome at Oxford United, perfectionist Cifuentes said: “We will never be satisfied or happy with a draw for Leicester City. It doesn’t matter whether it is home or away.”
Coventry City Preview
One point behind Saturday’s opponents. Cov are still undefeated although they’ve drawn the past two games.
Haji Wright is joint leading marksman in this division delivering five strikes. He has helped the Sky Blues become Championship foremost scorers on 15.
Leicester vs Coventry score prediction: Coventry clinch it 2-1.
Portsmouth v Sheffield Wednesday
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 9th versus 23rd
Punters can bet on Portsmouth vs Sheffield Wednesday at William Hill and here is the current state of the market:
- Portsmouth – 4/7
- Draw – 29/10
- Sheffield Wednesday – 9/2
Portsmouth Preview
Just one EFL defeat so far leaving them within a point of the Play-Off pack. Pompey protect our Championship’s joint best defensive record on three goals conceded.
However they haven’t scored more than once in the six League and Cup games fulfilled. Sunday’s sterile scoreless draw at near rivals Southampton was described by one source as: “The most underwhelming South Coast derby ever.”
Sheffield Wednesday Preview
Merely one point on the board meaning Wednesday already lie three points adrift of safety.
Tuesday night’s single goal Carabao Cup reverse at home to League Two giant-killers Grimsby Town won’t help morale either. The Owls nurse three ongoing matches bereft of scoring in all competitions.
Portsmouth vs Sheffield Wednesday score prediction: Yawn festival 0-0.
Sheffield United v Charlton Athletic
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 24th versus 18th
Punters can bet on Sheffield United vs Charlton at William Hill and here is the current state of the market:
- Sheffield United – 17/20
- Draw – 23/10
- Charlton – 16/5
Sheffield United Preview
As correctly prophesised in my EFL Championship preview last week, Rubén Sellés departed the managerial hot-seat on Sunday.
Rock bottom and pointless after six straight defeats in all competitions, the appointment of Sellés on 18th June turned out to be calamitous and culminated in the humiliating 5-0 setback at Ipswich Town.
Also, just one League goal scored through Tyrese Campbell on the opening day six weeks ago. Quite predictably, Monday’s news featured Chris Wilder returning for a third spell as manager. He passionately declared: “Sheffield United is my life.”
Charlton Athletic Preview
The League One Play-Off Final winners possess only one victory arriving 1-0 at home to Watford on the season’s inaugural Saturday. Yet boss Nathan Jones boldly insists: “We are comfortable at this level.”
Sheffield United vs Charlton score prediction: Wonderful Wilder 3-0.
