The British Open gets underway on Monday 22nd September 2025 and snooker fans will be fixed on the action at the Centaur Arena, Cheltenham throughout the week.

Mark Selby was triumphant at the event last year, beating snooker legend John Higgins in the final and ‘The Jester From Leicester’ will be back to try and record back-to-back British Open titles.

Higgins, one of the greatest snooker players of all-time, will also feature at the 2025 competition and victory for the Scottish player will see him move level with Steve Davis on five British Open triumphs.

British Open 2025 Format

The tournament is open to all tour card holders, with 128 players entering the first round. There are no seeds or rankings, with a random draw meaning that the best players in the world could face off at any stage of the event.

The first four rounds of the competition are best of seven frame affairs, while quarter-finals are the best of nine frames and the semi-finals are the best of 11 frames. The final, meanwhile, is the best of 19 frames.

British Open Snooker Trophy

Renamed as the Clive Everton trophy in 2022, the British Open winner will receive the award – which pays tribute to the popular commentator and long-time editor of Snooker Scene magazine.
