SUNFALL is given a chance to get back on track in the the opener at Newmarket on Cambridgeshire Friday (1.15). Although her recent form figures look ordinary, her latest effort in a first time tongue tie was a strong hint she was on the way back, finishing off nicely from a modest pace and doing second best of those held up. The return to a mile will suit, and she should still be right in the mix on current ratings.
SPIRITED STYLE is probably a pretty decent favourite in the Princess Royal (1.50). Her form such as it is exceeds what most of these have a achieved, and she’s open to a fair deal more progression. A line can be easily drawn through her last start in a bog in Germany, but she’ll have no issues with conditions here and has been given plenty of time to freshen up.
TOULEEN looks hard to oppose in the Rockfel (2.25). She made a huge impression under this rider at Leicester, and connections were toying with going straight to the fillies’ mile, This will be easier, and the fact that the filly she despatched with consummate ease is second favourite here probably tells its own story.
OPERA BALLO can win the Joel Stakes on a day of entirely unimaginative selections (3.00). He has really got the hang of things the last twice, adding a bit of maturity and tractability to the obvious bucket load of ability that he showed in the spring. He has had another spell to develop since his impressive and good-on-the-clock win at the July Festival, and he might really turn on the style here en route to a Group One.
EYDON can win the Godolphin Stakes, even under a hefty penalty (3.35). He might be six, but he’s a very good horse when he is sound enough to get to a racecourse. Crucially, he can run well fresh, and there is every chance he has been saved for an autumn campaign. Connections brought Almeric back from a similar break the other day, and can do the same here.
Worcester, Friday
SERVICE MINIMUM still looks a drop of value to win the TV race from Worcester for the Skeltons (2.42). She needs a step up in much better company, but she won her last race here a bit easier than her six pound rise in the weights suggests, and expect her to be one of the last off the bridle.
