League Two
League 2 Predictions – Saturday 4th October 2025

WE have new leaders approaching another appetising weekend of EFL League Two action.
That scenario is prompting plenty of League Two betting activity. There is also a significant managerial appointment to digest.
Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to guide your football betting…
Milton Keynes Dons v Gillingham Prediction
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 9th versus 3rd
Milton Keynes Dons Preview
The pre-season promotion favourites are faltering two points below Play-Off contention. Last Saturday’s 2-1 triumph at Shrewsbury Town ended a five match winless streak in all competitions. Home form is poor bringing one EFL victory and three defeats.
Gillingham Preview
Fresh from dropping off top spot after going down 1-0 at home to Harrogate Town. The result really surprised me because it shattered Gillingham’s club record 21 match unbeaten EFL run spanning seven months to Tuesday 25th February.
Meanwhile, Gills boss Gareth Ainsworth is to undergo routine heart surgery and will be on leave for a few weeks. Gareth is a personal friend of mine so I wish him a speedy recovery. His assistant Richard Dobson assumes caretaker duties.
Score prediction: Extremely tight 1-1.
Newport County v Swindon Town Prediction
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 22nd versus 2nd
Newport County Preview
Staying out of the relegation rungs on goal difference. No wins among 10 successive fixtures in all competitions losing nine of them. Their sole EFL victory throughout 2025/26 came 2-1 at Crawley Town on Saturday 9th August.
In fact, the previous home maximum pointer featured a 3-0 margin over Harrogate Town back in mid-March. Pressure is certainly mounting on manager David Hughes who says his side are making “too many unforced errors”.
Swindon Town Preview
One point under first place having pulled off six League and Cup wins during seven ongoing encounters. Ian Holloway’s men are joint divisional leading scorers on 21 goals – incorporating 11 on the road.
And striker Aaron Drinan is League Two’s foremost marksman hitting the net eight times.
Score prediction: Swindon rout 5-0.
Walsall v Bristol Rovers Prediction
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 1st versus 7th
Walsall Preview
The Saddlers grabbed pole position courtesy of last Saturday’s 3-1 cruise at Accrington Stanley. Impressive current fortunes reflects six wins amid seven undefeated League and Cup assignments.
Monday’s news saw former top flight left-back Chris Powell joining Walsall’s coaching team “on an interim basis”.
Bristol Rovers Preview
In fine fettle due to an eight match unbeaten spree across all competitions including six victories. This overturns four straight losses at the start of 2025/26.
Score prediction: Thrills and spills 3-3.
Cheltenham Town v Fleetwood Town Prediction
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 24th versus 11th
Cheltenham Town Preview
Cheltenham-born Steve Cotterill returned to his hometown club for a second spell in charge on Tuesday morning penning a deal until summer 2028. It follows the sacking of Michael Flynn.
Rock bottom Robins nurse 10 defeats in 13 League and Cup matches this season culminating in the 7-1 hammering at Grimsby Town. Their solitary EFL win arrived 1-0 against visitors Accrington Stanley on Saturday 6th September. Furthermore, 24 goals conceded is League Two’s worst defensive performance.
Fleetwood Town Preview
Two points shy of Play-Off contention. Last Saturday’s exciting 4-2 home success versus Colchester United signalled a first win in four attempts.
Score prediction: Cotterill managerial bounce 2-1.
Salford City v Grimsby Town Prediction
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 4th versus 5th
Salford City Preview
A crucial clash in the Play-Off zone. Salford’s 2-1 reverse away to Bristol Rovers terminated a four match winning sequence in all competitions. But it still looks like being their best season since joining the EFL in 2019.
Grimsby Town Preview
Three victories in five League and Cup outings crowned by the aforementioned 7-1 home dispatch of Cheltenham Town. Grimsby are basking in the glory of Carabao Cup giantkilling feats past Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday too.
Score prediction: Salford shade it 1-0.
Colchester United v Chesterfield Prediction
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 20th versus 6th
Colchester United Preview
Seven consecutive EFL matches bereft of victory. Their single League triumph of 2025/26 was 2-0 up at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday 16th August. One of three teams yet to win at home in League Two combat.
Chesterfield Preview
Three games unbeaten following last Saturday’s comfortable 4-1 home win against Newport County.
Score prediction: U’s finally do it 3-2.
