League 2 Predictions – Saturday 18th October 2025

LOTS of intriguing fixtures are looming on the horizon for our latest episode of EFL League Two action.
An exciting promotion race is unfolding with merely five points spanning 3rd down to 14th place in the table. That scenario is prompting plenty of League Two betting activity.
Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to guide your football betting…
Walsall v Barrow
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 1st versus 18th
Walsall preview – Two points clear at the top thanks to an eight match unbeaten EFL streak incorporating six maximum pointers. Their last League Two defeat was 1-0 at home to Grimsby Town on Tuesday 19th August.
The Saddlers’ appropriately named boss Mat Sadler said this week: “We continue to grow and develop. I can never, ever be critical of my players because they’re an amazing group to work with giving me everything on the pitch.”
Barrow preview – Three matches without victory in all competitions. Six points below Play-Off contention and a similar six points clear of relegation danger.
Score prediction: Walsall storm onwards 3-1.
Accrington Stanley v Swindon Town
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 20th versus 2nd
Accrington Stanley preview – One point beyond the dreaded relegation dotted line. Stanley are nursing four straight defeats in League and Cup compounded by a solitary goals scored during that sequence.
Just a single home EFL triumph so far…1-0 against Colchester United on Saturday 13th September.
Swindon Town preview – Ian Holloway’s men hover two points off pole position whilst holding a game in hand. They boast seven wins in their last eight matches embracing all competitions. Furthermore, Aaron Drinan is the division’s leading scorer on eight goals.
Score prediction: Swindon satisfaction 2-0.
Grimsby Town v Gillingham
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 5th versus 3rd
Grimsby Town preview – Three defeats in five League and Cup affairs leave the Mariners one point beneath automatic promotion discussions. Foremost scorers in League Two racking up 24 goals.
Grimsby are also basking in the glory of Carabao Cup giantkilling feats over Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday with a home tie to come against Premier League opponents Brentford later this month.
Gillingham preview – Three defeats and a draw in their past four games across all competitions saw the Gills topple from first place. Before then, there had been a club record 21 match unbeaten EFL run stretching seven months to Tuesday 25th February.
Assistant boss Richard Dobson continues in caretaker charge for up to a month as Gareth Ainsworth recuperates after open-heart surgery. However, Ainsworth is now getting involved in team selection and tactics by telephone.
Score prediction: Raucous 4-4.
Milton Keynes Dons v Crewe Alexandra
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 4th versus 8th
Milton Keynes Dons preview – Three successive EFL victories move the Dons to within a point of those automatic promotion spots. Good progress by the pre-season promotion favourites but MK must improve on three home League losses to date.
Crewe Alexandra preview – One point off the Play-Off rungs following three defeats among five League outings.
Score prediction: Dons devastating 4-0.
Barnet v Notts County
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 7th versus 13th
Barnet preview – Slipping almost unnoticed into the Play-Off shake up courtesy of four wins in a five match unbeaten EFL spree. Even so, three home League Two defeats in 2025/26 is cause for concern.
Notts County preview – Current form reflects four victories in six engagements throughout all competitions. A winning result on Saturday would take Notts above their hosts due to the tight nature of our fourth tier table.
Score prediction: Stay at home 0-0.
Salford City v Oldham Athletic
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 9th versus 15th
Salford City preview – Local bragging rights at stake between two sides based eight miles apart as the crow flies. Salford have lost their past three EFL encounters scoring once.
Oldham Athletic preview – Four games in all competitions bereft of victory. Yet only one away EFL defeat in the present campaign – namely 3-1 at Notts County on 4th October. In addition, Oldham protect the division’s best defensive rearguard showing nine goals conceded.
Score prediction: Salford scrape it 1-0.
