Championship Predictions – Saturday 18th October 2025

OUR ever-competitive EFL Championship resurfaces this weekend after the international break interlude.
One side remain unbeaten in the promotion race while two Sheffield clubs are propping up the table. There is also a prominent managerial change to throw into the mix.
Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to guide your football betting…
Queens Park Rangers v Millwall
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 6th versus 8th
Queens Park Rangers preview – Matrade Loftus Road is totally sold out so raucous noise is guaranteed. West London hosts South-East London in a match between two teams situated nine miles apart as the crow flies.
Since meekly surrendering 7-1 at Coventry City on Saturday 23rd August, Rangers are suddenly undefeated across six games to dramatically join the Play-Off pack. I love the way head coach Julien Stephan is ignoring modern day established tactics by playing two strikers.
Millwall preview – A point behind Saturday’s hosts. The Lions are unbeaten on their 2025/26 Championship travels mustering two wins and two draws.
Score prediction: Don’t look away 4-4.
Coventry City v Blackburn Rovers
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 1st versus 21st
Coventry City preview – Absolutely flying! One point clear in first place and still unbeaten. They’ve won their past three EFL encounters hitting 12 goals without reply.
Overall, free-flowing Coventry are divisional foremost scorers racking up 27 goals. Furthermore, Haji Wright is the Championship leading marksman delivering eight strikes.
Blackburn Rovers preview – Hovering one point above the dreaded dotted relegation line. Accordingly, pressure in mounting on Valerien Ismael in the Championship managerial sack race. However their two League victories so far have come away from home.
Score prediction: Carry on Coventry 5-0.
Sheffield United v Watford
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 24th versus 11th
Sheffield United preview – Rock bottom and four points adrift of safety due to nine defeats amid 10 League and Cup engagements. Merely three Championship goals scored – the division’s worst tally. Their previous regular season home victory was last April.
Chris Wilder came back as manager on 15th September but hasn’t made a significant impact. He summed up present fortunes saying: “We are beating ourselves at the moment.”
Watford preview – A first assignment in the dug-out for returning boss Javi Gracia. He was reappointed last week in light of Paulo Pezzolano being sacked after just 10 League and Cup games in charge.
Pezzolano actually picked up seven points in his final three matches leaving Watford needing three points to catch up on the Play-Off zone.
Score prediction: Blades find cutting edge 3-2.
West Bromwich Albion v Preston North End
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 7th versus 4th
West Bromwich Albion preview – A point shy of Play-Off discussions accruing a solitary win during five outings. Only three goals scored at home in four attempts too.
Preston North End preview – Preston are Championship dark horses this season in my opinion. Currently boasting five matches unconquered to sit two points short of second position.
Score prediction: Insipid 0-0.
Leicester City v Portsmouth
- Kick-off: 7.45pm
- Rankings: 3rd versus 14th
Leicester City preview – Enjoying seven matches unbeaten taking the Foxes two points beneath automatic promotion contention. Undefeated on home soil amassing two wins and two draws.
Portsmouth preview – The aforementioned 1-0 Fratton Park triumph over Middlesbrough terminated a four match winless run. Pompey’s sole away success to date was by a single goal at Oxford United on the opening day of 2025/26.
Score prediction: Pompey playing up 2-1.
