Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship Odds: Verstappen Overtakes Piastri as Favourite

Max Verstappen has moved ahead of Oscar Piastri in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship betting, after storming to victory at the United States Grand Prix.
The Dutchman, who had been a 5/1 shot before the race, is now priced at 6/4 with William Hill to lift the title, having cut Piastri’s points advantage from 63 to just 40. The result has reignited the title race with four rounds remaining in the 2025 season.
Piastri, who had been as short as 8/15 ahead of the weekend, has drifted to 7/4, while his McLaren teammate Lando Norris remains firmly in contention at 15/8. The tightening of the betting means this year’s championship could be heading for a dramatic finale between the sport’s emerging and established stars.
Attention now turns to the Mexican Grand Prix, where Verstappen is the 6/4 favourite to win, followed by Norris at 9/4 and Piastri at 11/4.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “Saturday saw Oscar Piastri trading as short as 8/15 for the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship, but after a dominant performance by Max Verstappen (was 5/1) in the US Grand Prix the Dutchman has now overtaken Piastri to top the market at 6/4, with Lando Norris slightly behind at 15/8.
“Verstappen’s upturn in form has translated into favouritism for the Mexican Grand Prix, where he is 6/4, ahead of both McLaren drivers, with Norris at 9/4 and Piastri at 11/4. Should Verstappen build on his US Grand Prix success, we could see the gap to Piastri shorten even further after this week’s Mexican Grand Prix.”

After a challenging start to the 2025 season, Max Verstappen appears to be rediscovering his trademark dominance. His win at the Circuit of the Americas – his fifth victory of the campaign – has breathed new life into the title fight and re-established Red Bull as a force against McLaren’s youthful duo.
Oscar Piastri’s early-season consistency had seen him emerge as the surprise leader, but Verstappen’s experience under pressure could prove decisive in the final stages of the season. The Australian’s drift in the betting from 8/15 to 7/4 reflects not just the narrowing points gap but also the momentum swing in Verstappen’s favour.
Lando Norris, meanwhile, remains firmly in contention. His 9/4 odds make him a serious threat, especially given McLaren’s overall competitiveness. A strong result in Mexico could tilt the balance again, keeping the championship alive deep into November.
With four races left in Mexico, Brazil, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, the fight between Verstappen, Piastri, and Norris promises to go down to the wire. The tightening in the betting lines mirror the excitement among fans and pundits alike, with all three drivers capable of clinching the crown.
