Snooker Champion of Champions 2025: Everything You Need To Know

| BY Sam Cox
Snooker World Championship Preview 2025

An event designed specifically for tournament winners; the Champion of Champions could draw comparisons to UEFA’s Cup Winners’ Cup or the failed endeavour of a T20 Champions League.

Naturally, the Champion of Champions involves many of the world’s best players with a few wild cards. Ronnie O’Sullivan, for instance, is a four-time winner. Judd Trump has been a regular contender at the event, and five of the top seven players in the world rankings are involved in the 2025 edition.

The concept first appeared as a non-ranking event in 1978, with Ray Reardon coming out on top. It was played again in 1980, as Doug Mountjoy made it two Welsh champions in two editions, but it disappeared until 2013 when it was revived as a ranking event.

Where is the 2025 Champion of Champions?

The 2025 Champion of Champions is being held at Mattioli Arena in Leicester. It is the first time the event has taken place in Leicester.

Bolton’s Toughsheet Community Stadium was the venue from 2021 to 2024. Milton Keynes had the competition in 2020, and it had previously been at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.

When is the 2025 Champion of Champions?

The 2025 Champion of Champions begins on November 10th and concludes on November 16th. It is the last professional snooker event that will be shown on ITV Sport, as the broadcaster has opted not to renew its deal with Matchroom.

2025 Champion of Champions Prize Money

The total prize fund for the Champion of Champions was reported to be £440,000 in 2020. Of that, £150,000 went to the winner of the event.

It is likely the total prize money has increased markedly since then, but there has been no concrete reporting.

How Do Players Qualify?

Qualification for the Champion of Champions is based on winners of the main tour, women’s tour, and senior tour over the last 12 months. If required, this field is completed according to the world rankings.

In 2025, there was some uncertainty over O’Sullivan’s place in the competition. He hasn’t won an event in the necessary timeframe, but it briefly seemed like he might be given a place via his world ranking.

As the name suggests, the tournament is intended for champions of other events. Matchroom have often faced criticism for how they’ve filled out the draw.
