GUNSIGHT RIDGE gets the nod in the TV opener at a soggy Cheltenham (1.45). Although it is hard to be convinced of his stamina if things get really testing, he’s in for an easier time now he’s officially into the veteran stage, and he’s relatively low mileage alongside some of these. Conditions per se will prove no issue, and the stable is maintaining its momentum as the season builds.
WADE OUT is another for the same team who should go well (2.20). His career has been a story of steady but sure progress thus far, hinting strongly at a pretty talented staying chaser in the making. He won’t be on fumes if the going gets tough, and there was loads to like about his attitude in defeating a smart rival on his chasing debut at Worcester.
L’EAU DU SUD might be the play against Jonbon in the Shloer (2.55). The key to the selection is that his chances increases relative to the pace of the race: if they go quick, he’ll stay on the bridle longest. And with Matata very likely to serve it up to Jonbon, L’Eau du Sud might just get the perfect set-up in conditions he won’t mind at all.
KING’S BUCKS looks worth chancing at biggish odds in the novice hurdle (3.30). He’s not quite reached the level of some yet, but looks to be crying out for this extra distance and a bit of cut in the ground judged on his fair rules efforts so far. He’s a well bred horse (dam a sister to Cyrname) who cost plenty and comes from a top yard – you can expect a good deal better.
