William Hill Becher Chase Tips: Runner-By-Runner Guide & Race Prediction

Aintree Latest Entries

This year’s race forms part of the ground-breaking ‘William Hill Half a Mill’ Randox Grand National bonus series, which offers £500,000 to connections of any horse that can complete a famous trial and Grand National double in the same season.

The lucrative bonus is available to the winners of the William Hill Becher Chase at Aintree, the William Hill Classic Chase at Warwick and the William Hill Grand National Trial at Haydock – if they can go on to triumph in the Randox Grand National at Aintree on Saturday 11th April 2026. It would see the total pot for winning the world’s greatest race effectively double to £1million.

With a total of 13 declared runners, I run through the entire list of 2025 Becher Chase Contenders:

Mr Vango

Midlands Grand National winner Mr Vango will be unleashed at Aintree on Saturday for the first time by Sara Bradstock.

The star chaser may well be burdened with carrying top weight, but his class should see him through and he is a worthy favourite.

Bioluminescence

The seven-year-old mare was well fancied in the horse racing betting for the Irish National back in April but was pulled up a few fences after being hampered.

Stamina shouldn’t be an issue having won her maiden PTP over three miles in November 2022. Gavin Cromwell trains.

Monbeg Genius

Third in the 2023 Ultima Chase at Cheltenham and he could well be seen running on late when others have cried enough.

Twig

Second in the 2024 Ultima Chase and has little pieces of form that would give him an outside chance here. Will appreciate this shorter trip over these fences.

Bill Baxter

All the way winner of the 2024 Topham Chase, and has set off this season in fine fettle too. Shortlist material.

Roi Mage

Genuine veteran who essentially has done the lion’s share of his racing in France.

A twelve-time career winner, he will certainly find these fences a lot easier than the cross-country ones he thrives over across the channel.

White Rhino

Was well fancied for the Grand Sefton here a month ago but failed to sparkle on the occasion. A return to his best form would put him right in with a solid chance.

Galia Des Liteaux

Dan Skelton’s runner was the highest placed English finisher in last season’s Grand National and this drop back in trip will be ideal for the nine-year-old. The in-form Tristan Durrell takes the ride and he will be a popular pick in our sports betting.

Mahons Glory

Ran a blinder in the Grand Sefton, but will his stamina hold out over this longer Becher Chase trip?

Excello

Finished just 2¼ lengths behind Colonel Harry in the Grand Sefton and was staying on nicely in the closing stages. Connections will be hoping for much more of the same.

Westerninthepark

Beaten a long way in the Kim Muir but ran with some promise on his seasonal return at Carlisle. He could well be a dark horse under Brian Hughes.

Val Dancer

Landed the Welsh Grand National in 2024 but has struggled to reach those heights since.

Gaboriot

Solid performer from the hunting ranks who went really well in the Grand Sefton. He should be on the premises again.

Becher Chase selection: Gaboriot (7/1, E/W)
