League 2 Predictions Today – Saturday 13th December 2025

League 2 Football Preview

A full schedule for the fourth tier this Saturday sees leaders Walsall host struggling Shrewsbury, the Saddlers strongly backed in the League Two betting to prevail.

Promotion-chasing Swindon meanwhile head to Bristol Rovers, to face down a team in historically poor form. Surely the visitors have to be fancied in the football betting to once again come good?

Bristol Rovers v Swindon Town

  • Kick-Off: 12:30
  • Rankings: 22nd vs 3rd

Bristol Rovers preview: The Pirates’ season is going from worse to calamitous, a heavy thumping at Barnet setting an all-time club record for straight losses. Just three goals scored since September lies at the heart of their woes.

Swindon preview: The set-back of losing their derby clash with Cheltenham midweek is not indicative of anything serious. The Robins never win that fixture, it being a long-running hex.

Ian Holloway’s side have comfortably dispatched the rest of the bottom six so far this term and should do so again here.

Score prediction: 0-3.

Salford City v Colchester United

  • Kick-Off: 12:30
  • Rankings: 7th vs 10th

Salford preview: Thirty-six shots undertaken across their last two home matches highlight’s Salford’s attacking intent at Moor Lane but they will always give up chances at the back too. A minus goal difference says a great deal, this despite the Ammies competing in the play-off spots.

Colchester preview: The U’s have mined some fine form of late, dating back to a surprise 6-2 thrashing of Chesterfield in early October. In their eight subsequent league games they have picked up 2.1 ppg.

Score prediction: 1-2.

Accrington Stanley v Bromley

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 16th vs 4th

Stanley preview: The Reds were arguably fortunate to secure all three points when hosting Oldham in their last home fixture. Oliver Wright in nets was outstanding. All the same, the win helped extend their unbeaten run to six.

Wideman Isaac Heath accrued four goal involvements in those games.

Bromley preview: All four of Bromley’s defeats have come away from Hayes Lane but a routine dismissal of Crawley on home soil midweek has them in good shape. Striker Michael Cheek has taken on the second most shots in League Two, a high volume that has garnered him nine goals.

Score prediction: 1-1.

Cheltenham Town v Harrogate Town

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 19th vs 23rd

Cheltenham preview:  All six of Cheltenham’s victories this term have been to nil while there is little danger of complacency being an issue this weekend after the high of beating Swindon. A win will put the Robins seven points clear of the drop-zone which is motivation enough.

Harrogate preview: A hard-fought draw at Barnet on Tuesday reveals that spirit is still prevalent within the squad. Ten losses in 14 however tells a sorry tale.

Score prediction: 2-0.

Chesterfield v Barnet

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 9th vs 11th

Chesterfield preview: Ten of the Spirite’s last 12 league contests have finished with both teams scoring while the draws keep racking up for Paul Cook’s men. Eight stalemates in 14 highlights their lack of a proven finisher.

Barnet preview: A four-goal thrashing of Bristol Rovers on Tuesday ended a run of five consecutive draws for the Bees whose sting in the tail is forward Callum Stead. The 25-year-old has bagged four goals in his last seven starts.

Barnet’s away form is worthy of note, losing just once on the road all season.

Score prediction: 1-2.

Crawley Town v Oldham Athletic

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 21st vs 17th

Crawley preview: Consecutive losses preceded by a brace of draws has seen the Red Devils plummet from their comfortable mid-table berth to residing precariously above the bottom two. Simply put, an awful rearguard – who have shipped in 1.7 goals per 90 this season – too often gives a decent forward-line too much to do.

Oldham preview: Back-to-back 0-1 defeats has put paid to any faint hopes the Latics had of venturing into the play-off places. For the festive period at least it’s all about hauling themselves out of danger.

Micky Mellon’s side have the defensive chops to do so, conceding the fewest goals in the fourth tier.

Score prediction: 0-1.

Gillingham v Barrow

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 8th vs 18th

Gillingham preview: After a highly impressive start to their campaign, unbeaten in their opening nine, the Gills’ have since drifted away. Table-toppers in late-September their only victory since was a cagey affair at Bristol Rovers.

Conceding early goals has been a big problem for the Kent side.

Barrow preview: Barrow’s fortunes uncannily mirror their hosts this weekend. They too have won only once since late-September. They too have developed an unhealthy obsession with drawing games.

A meagre 6.4% chance conversion ratio hasn’t helped matters.

Score prediction: 3-1.

Grimsby Town v Notts County

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 13th vs 2nd

Grimsby preview: A draw at Shrewsbury on Tuesday was an okay result in isolation for the Mariners but it now means they are winless in six, their play-off hopes fading by the week.

County preview: The Magpies won both of their encounters with Grimsby last season, with Alassana Jatta scoring in each game. The Gambian forward has fired 0.58 goals per 90 in 2025/26 and will fancy his chances against a recently porous defence.

Score prediction: 2-3.

Milton Keynes Dons v Cambridge United

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 5th vs 6th

MK Dons preview: The Dons’ last three games have produced four goals per 90 while their last goalless encounter was on the opening day of the season. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was backed to have an impact at Notts County midweek and the 33-year-old winger duly delivered, scoring twice and racking up three key passes.

It was ultimately all in vain, the Dons downed at Meadow Lane 3-2.

Cambridge preview: Neil Harris’ side were not overly fancied pre-season but have shown commendable consistency and an ability to dig in when things go against them. Three clean sheets on the back of a recent mini-blip is a testimony to their manager’s pragmatism.

If there is one criticism it’s that they struggle to finish teams off, which partly explains three draws in their last five.

Score prediction: 2-2.

Newport County v Fleetwood Town

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 24th vs 14th

Newport preview: At face value, the Exiles’ results since Christian Fuchs’ appointment have not been hugely encouraging, amounting to two draws and a loss. Those draws though were against Barrow and Crewe, tough opposition both.

Are Newport therefore improving? Could they finally secure a first home win in 2025/26? Saturday will reveal all.

Fleetwood preview: ‘Nip and tuck’ was how manager Pete Wild described his team’s 1-1 draw at home to Salford in the week and that sums up plenty of their contests this term. On only one occasion – at home to Crewe back in August – have they been outclassed.

Score prediction: 1-1.

Tranmere Rovers v Crewe Alexandra

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 15th vs 12th

Tranmere preview: One of the division’s form teams, Rovers have converted every 36 minutes across their last four outings with Charlie Whitaker central to it all. The 22-year-old schemer was talked up last time out and justified his mention with a sixth goal in six as Tranmere executed a statement 3-0 win at Barrow.

Crewe preview: The Railwaymen were in the process of putting an autumnal slump behind them but a loss at Cambridge midweek has refreshed familiar doubts. Chief among them is a propensity to concede first, though they at least avoided that on Tuesday. Instead they took the lead but were undone by two late strikes.

Score prediction: 3-1.

Walsall v Shrewsbury Town

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Rankings: 1st vs 20th

Walsall preview: Three wins on the bounce has consolidated the Saddlers’ standing at the summit of League Two and it was their most recent success that really stood out. No team has found it easy at Boundary Park this season, coming up against the meanest defence in the league, but the promotion-chasers showed mettle and resilience in beating Oldham.

That will serve them well for the months to come.

Shrewsbury preview: The Shrews have won only once on their travels this season, on six occasions conceding 2+ goals. Crewe, Fleetwood and Gillingham have all put three past them in recent weeks and Walsall are fancied to extend on that trend this Saturday.

Score prediction: 3-0.
