A gap has opened up in the automatic promotion placings whilst multiple teams are battling fiercely to reach the end of season Play-Offs. And there is a desperate scrap amongst the basement boys too. Accordingly, our Championship betting odds provide fascinating reading.

Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside my considered score predictions to guide your football betting…

Southampton v Coventry City

• Rankings: 10th versus 1st

Norwich City preview – One defeat amid five outings yet still three points beneath that dreaded dotted relegation line. So fortunes picking up since the appointment of Philippe Clement as head coach in November.

Even so, Norwich’s last away victory was way back on Saturday 30th August, 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn Rovers v Millwall

• Kick-off: 12.30pm
• Rankings: 20th versus 4th

Blackburn Rovers preview – Three points above relegation danger following five matches lacking wins. Just a solitary home triumph all season which was 2-1 against Southampton on Saturday 25th October.

The Blackburn Rovers Supporters Coalition group issued an open letter this week calling for the club to be put up for sale.

Millwall preview – Two games without victory leave the Lions seven points shy of automatic promotion contention. But they’ve only lost twice on the road all campaign. Curiously, Millwall possess a minus four goal difference in fourth spot!

Score prediction: Millwall magnificent 4-1.

Bristol City v Middlesbrough

• Kick-off: 3pm
• Rankings: 11th versus 2nd

Bristol City preview – Slipping towards mid-table thanks to a single victory in five attempts. Furthermore, five defeats inside nine League games.

Midfield man Mark Sykes is ruled out until mid-January because of a quad muscle injury sustained in last Saturday’s 1-0 setback at Coventry City.

Middlesbrough preview – Four straight wins for new boss Kim Hellberg have seen Boro halve leaders Coventry’s cushion to five points.

They currently hold a seven point advantage over the chasing Play-Off pack.

Score prediction: Boro upbeat 2-1.

Ipswich Town v Sheffield Wednesday

• Kick-off: 3pm
• Rankings: 5th versus 24th

Ipswich Town preview – Chalking up six victories in 11 engagements. The upwardly mobile Tractor Boys lie eight points off automatic promotion reckoning.

Their sole home Championship defeat throughout 2025/26 was 3-0 against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday 21st October.

Sheffield Wednesday preview – A total of 18 points deducted by the EFL means rock bottom Wednesday slumber on minus 9 points.

Hence an insurmountable 29 points to make up in retaining Championship status. The struggling Owls have merely one League win during 2025/26 – namely 2-0 away to Portsmouth on Saturday 20th September.

Score prediction: Tractor Boys tantalising 5-0.

Hull City v West Bromwich Albion

• Kick-off: 3pm
• Rankings: 6th versus 16th

Hull City preview – Three wins in four games keep Hull a point ahead of teams trailing outside the Play-Off zone. Unfortunately 10 goal forward Joe Gelhardt is ruled out until the New Year due to a calf problem.

West Bromwich Albion preview – Albion floundering on two wins from six encounters. Aune Heggebo has netted seven goals in his past seven appearances. However, their last away victory arrived on Wednesday 1st October by 1-0 at Norwich City.

The Baggies have subsequently been beaten in seven successive road trips. Therefore the future employment of boss Ryan Mason is coming under increasing scrutiny.
