Premier League Betting Tips for Wednesday 7th January

Premier League Puma Ball 2025-26

This midweek will see the Premier League get underway for Gameweek twenty-one of this campaign, with the table starting to take shape we’re all set for another round of pure PL drama.

@Footy_Tipster gives his best predictions ahead of this round of fixtures in the English Premier League..

Wednesday night in the Premier League will see eight games taking place up and down the country.

Six of those eight games all kick-off at 7.30pm, Bournemouth take on Tottenham Hotspur on the south coast, two teams defying the odds will meet as Brentford take on Sunderland in west London, Crystal Palace welcome Aston Villa to Selhurst Park.

Elsewhere, Wolves look to build on their first win of the season when they travel to Everton, Fulham and Chelsea battle it out in a west London derby, whilst Manchester City look to bounce back against Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.

Later on Wednesday evening, Burnley will take on Darren Fletcher’s Manchester United side at Turf Moor, whilst Newcastle United return to St James’ Park to face Leeds United.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some Premier League odds and Premier League betting angles for Wednesday’s fixtures:

Bournemouth v Tottenham Hotspur – Wednesday, 7.30pm

Punters can bet on Bournemouth v Tottenham Hotspur with William Hill

  • Bournemouth look like a side in freefall after an unbelievable start to the season which now seems to be a distant memory already, the Cherries enter Matchday twenty-one just three places above the drop having not won any of their last eleven Premier League games.
  • This is the longest winless run under Andoni Iraola yet his side enter this match against Spurs as the slight favourites on the betting front and a victory in this one would secure a double over the side from the capital for the first time, having won the reverse fixture 1-0 back in August.
  • The Cherries have seen eleven of their last fifteen games produce at least three goals, their twenty games so far have produced the most goals per game in the Premier League with 3.5, whilst they are also winless in their last seven midweek league fixtures.
    ——————————–————————
  • Tottenham Hotspur are another side having a poor season thus far with the Lilywhites sat in thirteenth place after the first twenty games, just four points above Wednesday nights opponents.
  • The pressure is really on Thomas Frank especially after a goalless draw at Brentford was then followed up with a draw against newly-promoted Sunderland on home soil, much to the frustration of their fans who have seen just two league wins on home soil.
  • Tottenham have the second best away record in the Premier League but have won just one of their last seven away games in all competitions, they’ve won four of their eight visits to Bournemouth in the Premier League (W4, D2, L2).

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Draw, Bournemouth 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur.

Brentford v Sunderland – Wednesday, 7.30pm

Punters can bet on Brentford v Sunderland with William Hill

  • Not many people had Brentford to be just one point off fifth place this season after the first twenty games but that’s exactly where the Bees are as they welcome Sunderland to the Brentford Community Stadium where they’ve lost just one of their ten league games so far.
  • Keith Andrews’ side have the fourth best home record in the league having picked up twenty-one points from a possible thirty and return to familiar surroundings having picked up their second consecutive win on the road on Sunday with an impressive 4-2 victory against Everton.
  • Brentford have earned 34 points from a possible 39 at home against promoted clubs in the Premier League (W11 D1 L1), whilst they did lose the reverse fixture 2-1 back in August, that’s now six of the last seven meetings between these two sides that have produced both teams to score.
    ——————————–————————
  • Sunderland continued their impressive start to this Premier League campaign, the Black Cats extended their unbeaten run to five games with a fourth draw in a row on Sunday away at Tottenham Hotspur, no side have drawn more than Sunderland’s nine this season.
  • The Black Cats remain just one of two sides (Arsenal) that are yet to taste defeat on home soil in the league but it’s a different story away from home, they’ve won just two of their ten away games so far since returning to the Premier League.
  • Following their 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light in August, Sunderland are looking to complete their first league double over Brentford since 1987-88 in the third tier but this one will be another tough ask, i’m going to back the Bees to edge it.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Brentford To Win, Brentford 2-1 Sunderland.

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa – Wednesday, 7.30pm

Punters can bet on Crystal Palace v Aston Villa with William Hill

  • Crystal Palace’s poor form has continued as they entered 2026 having seen their 1-1 draw against Fulham followed up with a 2-0 defeat away to Newcastle on Sunday, that’s now seven games in a row in all competitions without a win for Oliver Glasner’s side.
  • The Eagles won the reverse fixture 3-0 back in August although that was a Villa side that simply were underperforming massively, victory in this one would secure Palace a double over Villa for the first time in the league since 2013-2014.
  • There is some hope for Crystal Palace though in this one given their recent record against the Villans, they’ve won each of the last three meetings in all competitions whilst they remain unbeaten in their last six meetings (W5, D1).
    ——————————–————————
  • Aston Villa’s eleven game winning streak came to an end in their last game of 2025 with a defeat at Arsenal but Unai Emery’s side bounced back in style and started the New Year with a 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest in a game they dominated.
  • Aston Villa have picked up forty-two points in their twenty Premier League games this season (W13 D3 L4), while a win here would have them on 45+ points from their opening 21 matches of a league campaign for just the third time.
  • This is a fixture that tends to produce goals with each of the last seven games all seeing three or more goals scored and whilst Aston Villa are the side in better form, the recent head-to-head of this fixture is hard to ignore and therefore i’m going against the odds and backing a home win.

Prediction: Crystal Palace To Win & Over 2.5 Goals, Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa.

Everton v Wolves – Wednesday, 7.30pm

Punters can bet on Everton v Wolves with William Hill

  • Everton started the New Year with a 4-2 defeat here on Sunday afternoon against Brentford, a loss which has seen David Moyes’ side now drop down into twelfth, albeit only outside the top ten via goal difference.
  • However, that’s now back-to-back defeats on home soil and three in their last four, the Toffees haven’t lost three home games in a row since September 2023, whilst five of their last seven home games have produced three or more goals.
  • The Blues have the chance to make it a double over Wolves for the first time since 2020/2021 having won the reverse fixture 3-2 back in August but they’ve won just one of the last four league games on Merseyside against Wolves.
    ——————————–————————
  • Wolves sit bottom of the Premier League table but finally picked up their first win of the season on Saturday with a 3-0 victory against West Ham putting an end to their awful run of twenty-three league games without a win.
  • Rob Edwards’ side are still well and truly up against it in terms of safety with the Old Gold still twelve points from safety at the time of writing, they remain the only side in the Premier League yet to win away from home (D2, L8).
  • Wolves have won four Premier League away games against Everton (D2 L5), only winning more often at Southampton (5) and Tottenham (5) in the competition, i really don’t think this will be straight forward for Everton and i’m going to take a punt on the score draw.

Prediction: Draw, Everton 1-1 Wolves.

Fulham v Chelsea – Wednesday, 7.30pm

Punters can bet on Fulham v Chelsea with William Hill

  • Fulham extended their unbeaten run to four games in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon but having conceded in the 94th minute it didn’t look likely until Harrison Reed’s wonder strike in the 97th minute to secure a point against Liverpool (2-2).
  • The Cottagers have slipped into the bottom-half of the table but are just three points behind the top six which just demonstrates how congested this campaign is becoming but extending their unbeaten run to five games will be difficult.
  • Fulham have lost five of their last seven London derbies at Craven Cottage, whilst they’ve won just one of their last six meetings against Chelsea. The Whites have seen twelve of their twenty league games so far produce both teams to score (60%).
    ——————————–————————
  • Well it’s been an eventful start to the New Year for Chelsea, 2026 started with Enzo Maresca leaving the club with Calum McFarlane taking over as caretaker for their trip to Manchester City on Sunday night, the Blues took a point back to the capital having scored late on in a 1-1 draw.
  • It was announced on Tuesday that Liam Rosenior is the new man in charge of the Blues but will sit this one out with McFarlane taking charge again before Rosenior start’s work with the club.
  • Chelsea are winless in their last four games and have won just two of their last ten outings in all competitions but a trip to Craven Cottage might be exactly what they need to end this run of poor form, as they have a nine-game unbeaten streak going against fellow London sides (W5, D4).

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Chelsea To Win, Fulham 1-2 Chelsea.

Manchester City v Brighton – Wednesday, 7.30pm

Punters can bet on Man City v Brighton with William Hill

  • Manchester City slipped up again on Sunday night at home to Chelsea, their 1-1 draw made it back-to-back stalemates for Pep Guardiola’s side following their goalless draw away at Sunderland just a few days before, not the ideal start to 2026.
  • The Cityzens have extended their unbeaten run to ten games now across all competitions (W8, D2) and they return to home soil where they’ve lost just one of their last thirteen games in all competitions but victory is a must here now, as the Blues are now six points behind Arsenal at the top.
  • City to bounce back does seem inevitable if history of this fixture is anything to go by, as Man City have never lost in 15 home league games against Brighton (W12 D3), both the most they’ve faced a side without ever losing at home, and the most Brighton have played anyone on the road without ever winning.
    ——————————–————————
  • Brighton & Hove Albion were glad to see the back of December having gone winless in their last twelve Premier League games in the month going back to 2023, so they started January perfectly with a 2-0 victory against Burnley on Saturday.
  • However, that winning streak is unlikely to continue here in Manchester on Wednesday night given the Seagulls have won just won of their last eight away games in all competitions, they’ve won just two of their ten PL away games this season.
  • Brighton and Hove Albion have conceded two goals in each of their last three away Premier League matches, whilst nine of the last ten meetings between these two sides have seen three or more goals, i’m expecting more of the same.

Prediction: Manchester City To Win & Over 2.5 Goals, Manchester City 3-1 Brighton.

Burnley v Manchester United – Wednesday, 8.15pm

Punters can bet on Burnley v Manchester United with William Hill

  • Relegation looks to be in the eyeline of Burnley despite playing just twenty-games this season so far but the Clarets are now without a win in their last eleven games since beating Wolves back in October, they remain six points from safety at the time of writing.
  • Scott Parker is a man under pressure and without a win on home soil in his last six games in charge of Burnley (D1, L5) it’s really concerning given you felt they’d have to use their home advantage if they had any chance of surviving.
  • Burnley have had success previously against United having won their first ever Premier League home game against them back in in August 2009. However, they’re winless in eight against them since then (D2 L6), scoring just one goal in the process, they were unlucky to lose the reverse fixture though (3-2) back in August.
    ——————————–————————
  • Calling out the hierarchy is never a good idea when you’re a man under pressure and Ruben Amorim found that out on Sunday, you felt he knew what he was doing after another disappointing draw at Leeds United led to a rant which resulted in him being sacked less than 24 hours after.
  • Manchester United won’t be looking at a permanent manager until the summer if the latest reports are to be believed and will be looking for a caretaker manager in the next couple of days, with Darren Fletcher given the first task of leading this side at Turf Moor.
  • Manchester United have lost just two of their last 36 Premier League matches against sides starting the day in the relegation zone whilst they’ve seen over 2.5 goals produced in eight of their last ten away games, i’m going to back United to win but both teams to get a goal.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Man United To Win, Burnley 1-2 Manchester United.

Newcastle v Leeds United – Wednesday, 8.15pm

Punters can bet on Newcastle v Leeds United with William Hill

  • Newcastle United picked up consecutive victories in the Premier League for just the second time this season having followed up their victory against Burnley with a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
  • The Magpies return to St James’ Park where they’ve been brilliant this season, they’ve lost just two league games here so far this campaign (v Liverpool & Arsenal), whilst they’ve not lost any of their last eleven games in all competitions on home soil.
  • The reverse fixture ended goalless back in August and that’s now four stalemates in the last five meetings between the two sides, with Leeds United remain the last promoted team to beat the Magpies here at St James’ Park.
    ——————————–————————
  • After a slow start to the campaign, Leeds United have really started to show exactly what they are capable of in recent weeks, the Whites are now unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games with two wins and five draws, including a 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.
  • The pressure has started to lift off Daniel Farke with his side now eight points clear of the drop at the time of writing but a trip to the North East might end their unbeaten run given they’ve won just once on the road this season in all competitions.
  • Leeds have drawn their last three away league matches, but the Whites haven’t drawn four in a row on the road since a run of six consecutively between August and October 1998, i’m going to back the Magpies to get a victory in this one.

Prediction: Newcastle United -1 Handicap, Newcastle 2-0 Leeds.
