Gold Cup and Stayers’ Hurdle shake-ups after Trials Day

Cheltenham Festival Predictions

Spillane’s Tower, Ma Shantou and Favori De Champdou among Festival market movers.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Cheltenham Trials Day once again provided a host of pointers for the Festival in March, with a number of horses stamping their authority on their respective divisions.

“The most striking performance came from Ma Shantou who won the Cleeve Hurdle by seven lengths and has been slashed from 50/1 to 8/1 for the Stayers’ Hurdle, placing him third in the betting.

“The first Graded race of the day, the Triumph Trial, saw Maestro Conti run out a convincing winner, with the Skeltons’ charge cut to 8/1 from 10s for the Triumph.

“The next market to undergo a shake-up was the Cross Country Chase, with Favori De Champdou’s victory also seeing him clipped to 8s (from 14/1).

“The Gold Cup market sprung a new contender after the Cotswold Chase, with Spillane’s Tower an eye-catching winner and a mover from 66/1 to 16s for the big one.

“An unfortunate injury to Sir Gino in the International Hurdle, which was won by The New Lion, has seen Lossiemouth hit the top of the Champion Hurdle betting at 5/2.”
