Gavin Cromwell’s William Hill blog: Inothewayurthinkin, The Passing Wife, Only By Night & Stumptown updates
William Hill ambassador Gavin Cromwell offers an update on a selection of his key horses heading to Cheltenham, less than a week out from the Festival.
A few of our Cheltenham runners did their final bits of work at Leopardstown this morning. We had The Passing Wife working there and I was happy with him.
We’re no closer to a decision on whether he’ll go for the Martin Pipe or whether he’ll be supplemented for the Albert Bartlett, but looking at the long-range forecast, it doesn’t look like the ground will be on the soft side. It’s definitely still an option and the better ground will certainly help him stay the trip.
The final part is just looking at the other likely runners. We haven’t looked too deep into it just yet and we don’t have to make the decision until Sunday.
Only By Night also worked well this morning. We’re going to keep an open mind with the Champion Chase and we will leave her in there at the confirmation stage. That said, I think we’re still leaning more towards the Mares’ Chase. She’s a better chance of staying the trip on the better ground that we’re expecting.
We were very happy with what Stumptown did this morning. He’s on target for the Cross Country Chase and we’re hopeful he can run another big race there.
Everything is still going in the right direction with Inothewayurthinkin as well.
