Every Time Mondo Duplantis Broke a World Record – Most of Which Were His Own!
On 12 March, Swedish pole vault extraordinaire Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis once again set a new world record in the discipline. In doing so, he actually set two records for the pole vault.
Now, where there are betting markets for the athletics, the 5’11’’ Swede ranks as the heavy favourite to take yet another gold medal. Here’s a look at Duplantis’ incredible rate of setting new world records.
Complete Mondo Duplantis World Records List
Starting with his grand arrival on the Toruń stage in February 2020, Mondo Duplantis has gone on to break the world record 15 times up to 12 March 2026. Here’s every time a new pole vault world record was set by Duplantis:
- 17m in Toruń, Poland (08/02/2020)
- 18m in Glasgow, United Kingdom (15/02/2020)
- 19m in Belgrade, Serbia (07/03/2022)
- 20m in Belgrade, Serbia (20/03/2022)
- 21m Eugene, United States (24/07/2022)
- 22m Clermont-Ferrand, France (25/02/2023)
- 23m Eugene, United States (17/09/2023)
- 24m Xiamen, China (20/04/2024)
- 25m Paris, France (05/08/2024)
- 26m Chorzów, Poland (25/08/2024)
- 27m Clermont-Ferrand, France (28/02/2025)
- 28m Stockholm, Sweden (15/07/2025)
- 29m Budapest, Hungary (12/08/2025)
- 30m Tokyo, Japan (15/09/2025)
- 31m Uppsala, Sweden (12/03/2026)
Duplantis has incrementally improved his highest vault by 0.01m a few times each year. In fact, dating back to the 2018 European Athletics Championships, he’s cleared at least 6m in each consecutive competition.
So, with a return to Toruń from 20 to 22 March, you’d think the sports odds would favour yet another Duplantis world record in pole vault. At the very least, he’ll be a huge odds-on favourite to win, especially after Uppsala.
Also incredibly impressively, Duplantis is still only 26-years-old. He’ll continue to enter competitions around the world for many years to come, and as there isn’t a limit in this event, he could be eventually targeting as high as 6.40m, or perhaps even higher.
Becoming the Ultimate Pole Vault Star
When the 15th Duplantis world record for pole vaulting was set on 12 March 2026 in his native Sweden, not only did he set a new bar for the record, but he also beat a former consecutive record-maker.
From 1984 to 1994, Ukrainian athlete Sergey Bubka recorded 14 new world records. Some under the flag of the Soviet Union, and the last four as a Ukrainian, Bubka’s string of records was unprecedented.
Prior to Bubka, Britain’s Thomas Ray had set the world record and then broke it for a run of eight new records, ranging from 3.42m to 3.52m, with his last being set in 1887.
Bubka’s last entry was 6.14m, followed by a quick interlude of Renaud Lavillenie’s 6.16m set nearly 20 years later. Six years after that, in 2020, Duplantis arrived, and has powered his way to greater heights time and time again.
Setting a new world record is already an incredible feat, but Mondo Duplantis has gone on a run of world record breaking that’s been unseen since the 1990s, when the bar was 17cm below Duplantis’ record.
The men’s pole vault finals at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships take place on 21 March. Will we add another entry to the Duplantis world record list on that day?
