Oldham and Salford set to scrap out a 1-1 draw at Boundary Park

| BY News Team

Saturday’s League Two schedule is another huge day in the promotion and relegation battles, as William Hill News predict the outcome of 11 games.

All the fixtures carry weight in one direction or another, whether it’s chasing the play‑offs or scrambling to stay in the division.

League Two predictions – Saturday 18th April:

Barrow 1-1 Walsall
Swindon 3-1 Accrington
Cheltenham 1-1 Newport
Crawley 1-2 Shrewsbury
Crewe 2-2 MK Dons
Fleetwood 1-2 Chesterfield
Gillingham 1-1 Grimsby
Harrogate 1-2 Colchester
Notts County 2-0 Barnet
Oldham 1-1 Salford
Tranmere 2-2 Bristol Rovers

Barrow v Walsall – Saturday, 12.30pm
Barrow – 13/10 | Draw – 11/5 | Walsall – 9/5

Barrow remain in the thick of the relegation scrap but recent performances have at least added a bit of resilience. Walsall are safely mid‑table yet winless in four and have looked open at the back. With both sides underwhelming in front of goal, a tight, low‑scoring draw feels likely.

Swindon v Accrington – Saturday, 12.30pm
Swindon – 8/13 | Draw – 14/5 | Accrington – 18/5

Swindon are pushing hard for automatic promotion and have been formidable at the Nigel Eady County Ground, scoring freely and winning four of their last five at home. Accrington have slumped into the bottom half and taken just one point from their last four away games. With the hosts chasing a top‑three finish, they should have too much here.

Cheltenham v Newport – Saturday, 3pm
Cheltenham – 5/4 | Draw – 21/10 | Newport – 2/1

Neither Cheltenham nor Newport have much left to play for beyond pride, and that has shown in some flat recent displays. Cheltenham did put four past Walsall in their last away outing. Newport remain inconsistent and porous at the back, so a score draw looks on the cards.

Crawley v Shrewsbury – Saturday, 3pm
Crawley – 19/20 | Draw – 9/4 | Shrewsbury – 11/4

Crawley are hovering just above the drop zone and know a home win would be a huge step towards safety. Shrewsbury, two places better off, arrive in worse form with four defeats in six and a habit of conceding late goals. The visitors’ set‑piece threat keeps them dangerous, but Crawley’s greater urgency might not be enough to stop a narrow away win.

Crewe v MK Dons – Saturday, 3pm
Crewe – 12/5 | Draw – 5/2 | MK Dons – 19/20

Tenth‑placed Crewe are clinging to play‑off hopes, while MK Dons sit second and look well‑placed for automatic promotion. The visitors have been ruthless on their travels, but Crewe’s home record means this is far from straightforward. With both among the division’s higher scorers, an entertaining draw would not surprise.

Fleetwood v Chesterfield – Saturday, 3pm
Fleetwood – 2/1 | Draw – 23/10 | Chesterfield – 6/5

Fleetwood’s push for the top half has stalled badly, with just one win in four and defensive lapses costing them points. Chesterfield remain right in the promotion mix despite a couple of stumbles and know they can’t afford many more slips in the run‑in. With the visitors boasting one of League Two’s sharpest attacks, they look set to edge this.

Gillingham v Grimsby – Saturday, 3pm
Gillingham – 14/5 | Draw – 23/10 | Grimsby – 10/11

Grimsby sit eighth and continue to grind out results, especially away from home where a series of clean sheets has underpinned their play‑off push. Gillingham are stuck in lower mid‑table, neither in serious danger nor in contention, which sometimes shows in their intensity levels. The visitors’ extra quality and motivation give them the edge, but Priestfield is rarely an easy place to go, so a draw is very possible.

Harrogate v Colchester – Saturday, 3pm
Harrogate – 19/10 | Draw – 9/4 | Colchester – 13/10

Bottom placed Harrogate are running out of road and badly need a statement result. Colchester, buoyed by John Terry’s takeover, have surged into the top half by winning three of their last four and still have an outside shot at the play‑offs. With momentum and confidence firmly on the visitors’ side, they look a strong fancy to keep their charge going.

Notts County v Barnet – Saturday, 3pm
Notts County – 29/20 | Draw – 2/1 | Barnet – 9/5

Fourth‑placed Notts County remain in the automatic‑promotion hunt, though a couple of recent losses have stalled their momentum. Barnet are just behind them in ninth and have been stubborn opposition all season, but their away form has been patchier than at The Hive. County’s firepower at Meadow Lane should prove decisive in what could be a cagey encounter.

Oldham v Salford – Saturday, 3pm
Oldham – 6/4 | Draw – 21/10 | Salford – 13/8

A North‑West tussle between two sides in the top half; this has all the ingredients of a tense affair. Oldham have been inconsistent but generally solid at Boundary Park, while Salford’s recent results have dragged them right into the promotion conversation. With both desperate not to lose ground on the top seven, a hard‑fought draw looks likely.

Tranmere v Bristol Rovers – Saturday, 3pm
Tranmere – 17/10 | Draw – 11/5 | Bristol Rovers – 29/20

Tranmere are still looking nervously over their shoulder with only a small cushion to the drop zone and form that reads more red than green. Bristol Rovers, by contrast, have put together an impressive sequence to climb into 15th, winning six of their last six and scoring freely. Rovers’ momentum should make them favourites, but Prenton Park can be a tricky venue, so a score draw is very much on the cards.
