Perth Festival 2026: Bangor Winner To Follow Up & More On Day 2

Day Two is “Tweed & Tartan Day” at the Perth Festival, and the carnival like atmosphere is supported by a £100,000 on-track prize fund.

The eight race schedule is made up of seven handicaps and one novices’ hurdle, which makes it an interesting betting card for all the William Hill punters out there.

Perth Tips Day 2:

  • 1.40 – Viscountess Nelson
  • 2.10 – Joeybottles (NAP)
  • 2.40 – Lets Mingle
  • 3.10 – Tommy’s Oscar (NB)
  • 3.40 – American Mike
  • 4.10 – Scriabin
  • 4.40 – Malangan
  • 5.15 – Casual Observer

Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington suggests one selection in each of those races:

1.40 – 2m4f Mares Novices’ Hurdle

Old Gold Racing will be confident that they have found the perfect opening for VISCOUNTESS NELSON to score today.

A winner of her only PTP, the six-year-old showed plenty in her maiden hurdle at Plumpton to definitely be a factor in this mares’ contest.

2.10 – 2m4f Handicap Hurdle (Div I)

JOEYBOTTLES (NAP) was last seen winning over this trip at Bangor and looks primed to go in again for his Cheshire based training team.

An impressive ten length victor at the North Wales track, the five-year-old can figure prominently under Toby Wynne.

2.40 – 2m4f Handicap Hurdle (Div II)

Course and distance scorer LETS MINGLE has shown enough form this season to suggest he’s bang up for taking this hurdle.

Five pound claimer Jack Power is a splendid rider, and the yard have hit a little bit of form recently, making him of major interest in this race.

3.10 – 2m4f Handicap Chase

Veteran performer TOMMY’S OSCAR (NB) may be eleven-years-old now, but he’s reliable in this grade and can be in the thick of it once more on Thursday.

Third in this race last season, he can hopefully make it win number 14 of his career.

3.40 – 3m Handicap Chase

Formerly trained by Gordon Elliott, AMERICAN MIKE is pretty much one of the classiest horses on the entire card, having run in several Grade One’s in his time and fairing reasonably well in that company.

I have every confidence that Olly Murphy will have him fit and firing for this three miler.

4.10 – 2m Handicap Hurdle

Running in the famous Auroras Encore colours, SCRIABIN has yet to win a race but he has been knocking on the door a few times.

Originally brought over from France, the six-year-old should go off a nice each-way price in our sports betting and has the added benefit of being bottom weight.

4.40 – 2m Handicap Hurdle

One horse who certainly knows his way around Perth is MALANGAN, and I believe he has a big each-way shout after bring given an ample holiday.

The eleven-year-old will adopt his customary front-running tactics and has happened on many previous occasions – he’ll pinch the race.

5.15 – 3m Handicap Hurdle

The beaten favourite last time out, CASUAL OBSERVER can take the lucky last for the Harry Derham stable.

The seven-year-old steps up to three miles for the first time since his debut PTP runner-up effort in Ireland.
