Madrid Open Round Of 16: Sinner, Musetti & More In Action
The round of 16 of the 2026 Madrid Open takes place across Monday and Tuesday, and William Hill News tipster Sam Cox is here to preview the biggest matches.
Madrid Open Tips – Round of 16:
- Jannik Sinner-6.5 games (10/11)
- Lorenzo Musetti -1.5 games (4/5)
- Anastasia Potapova over 6.5 games (6/10)
- Linda Nosková vs Coco Gauff: Both players to win a set (6/4)
Top seed Jannik Sinner is the clear tennis betting favourite in the men’s draw, while Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff remain in contention on the women’s side.
Jannik Sinner vs Cam Norrie
After surprisingly losing a set to Benjamin Bonzi, Sinner resumed normal service by dropping just five games in a win over Elmer Møller. The world number one now faces Cam Norrie in the last 16.
A hard-fought win over Tomáš Macháč was followed by a more straightforward victory against Thiago Tirante for the Brit.
This is Norrie’s first match against Sinner. He’s not been at his best so far in 2026, so it’s hard to see how he keeps this close.
Lorenzo Musetti vs Jiří Lehečka
Lorenzo Musetti beat Jiří Lehečka on the clay of Monte Carlo a little over 12 months ago. In Madrid, Musetti is the narrow betting favourite, with Lehečka coming off an impressive win over Alex Michelsen in the last round.
Musetti hasn’t dropped a set yet in this tournament. The Italian is at his most comfortable on clay, and has a bit to prove after disappointing showings at the last two events.
Lehečka’s run to the final in Miami was his standouts performance in what has been far from his best year to date. Musetti is the superior player and should get the job done here.
Anastasia Potapova vs Elena Rybakina
Having been so dominant in recent weeks, it’s a slight surprise to see Elena Rybakina drop two sets in her first two matches in Madrid. Rybakina is still heavily favoured against Anastasia Potapova, who came from a set down to beat Jelena Ostapenko in the last round.
Potapova is at her best on clay courts. She’s gone 7-2 on the surface so far this year. Four of her seven career wins against top-10 players have come on clay, and she reached the fourth round of this event last year.
Rybakina has at least shown some signs of vulnerability, so Potapova has a chance of keeping this competitive.
Linda Nosková vs Coco Gauff
This is the third meeting between Linda Nosková and Coco Gauff. The previous two are not especially informative as they both came on hard courts in 2023, but Gauff won comfortably on both occasions.
It’s been a very easy path so far for Nosková with a straight sets win followed by a walkover. Gauff had to work a bit harder, coming from a set down to beat Sorana Cîrstea in the round of 32.
This promises to be a highly competitive match. Nosková should put up more of a fight than in their previous duels.
