Nick Luck’s William Hill blog: Newmarket, Ascot & Goodwood Friday tips
William Hill ambassador Nick Luck previews Friday’s ITV racing from Newmarket, Ascot and Goodwood.
Newmarket
MY LOVE IS KING can take the TV opener at Newmarket on Friday (2.20). Well related and promising, he ran into a really smart colt at Newbury, and pushed him all the way. Although ratings give him a bit to find, he is capable of much more, and is a strong fancy.
ST ANTON is ready to win the mile handicap (2.55). He’s still a maiden, but ran a ridiculously eye catching race here at the Craven meeting, finding a bit of trouble with exaggerated hold up tactics off a slow pace. He’s run well at this track, and this doesn’t look too challenging off his current mark.
BAY CITY ROLLER looks perfectly positioned to make a winning return in the Jockey Club Stakes (3.30). His price scarcely reflects his ability and achievement given how impressive he was in a German Group One in the autumn. He should get a nice setup here.
GOLDEN REDEMPTION looks a likely type for the seven furlong handicap (4.05). He has been admirably consistent through the last couple of seasons, looking marginally more effective at seven furlongs than six. His comeback run should have sharpened him up nicely and he still has more to offer.
Ascot
BEYLERBEYI might upset the applecart in the Sagaro at Ascot (2.35). Ratings suggest he has plenty to find against established pattern horses, but that’s a reductive read of where he belongs. He’s a bit quirky, but has so much talent, and I’m firmly of the belief that he needs the sort of sustained gallop that a higher class race will present. He did astonishingly to make up the amount of ground he did from an unpromising position last time, and he’ll appreciate a return to turf under Ryan Moore.
WISE APPROACH can justify cramped odds in the Commonwealth Cup Trial (3.10). Although penalised for his Middle Park win, he had a bit in hand after a troubled trip that day, and I don’t see any obvious reason why Brussels or Coppull should reverse the form.
Goodwood
TATTYCORAM could be the answer to a tough Listed race at Goodwood (3.50). She ran consistently and mildly progressively through last year when the stable wasn’t always firing, and wasn’t over raced. She could well have quite a bit more to offer, particularly as her dam didn’t really hit her straps until she was five.
