Epsom Oaks Ante-Post Tips 2026: 12/1 Fancy To Get Better Of Stablemate?
Who does William Hill News tipster Steve Mullington fancy in The Oaks at Epsom Downs? Join him as he casts his eye over the ante-post markets for the Classic.
Unlike the Derby, I have only witnessed two of the current top three in the Oaks betting running at Chester and York respectively. I wasn’t however at Newmarket to see Venetian Lace finish third to True Love in the 1000 Guineas.
Just like the Derby, the betting for this Fillies’ Classic is currently dominated by three stand out runners, with the rest of the field coming in at 12/1 bar.
In contrast to the Derby, I will not be focusing exclusively on the contenders at the top of the betting because by there nature, fillies are very temperamental, and the recent history of this race shows us that longer priced horses can easily land this contest.
Epsom Oaks Ante-Post Prediction:
- Cameo (12/1, Each Way)
Amelia Earhart (7/4) emerged as the leading contender to bag top prize in this Epsom Classic after winning the Listed Cheshire Oaks at Chester on May 6th.
Travelling smoothly during the race, she produced a frightening turn of foot in the home straight to give Aidan O’Brien his 10th Cheshire Oaks win.
After the race, jockey Ryan Moore said “I was very happy with her, she’s a fine, big filly by Camelot – a family we know well.
She was well suited by the step up in trip, she handled the ground and she’s done everything right. She’s a really nice filly for the rest of the year.”
It is also important to note, that the O’Brien-trained Minnie Hauk won the Cheshire Oaks last year before going on to Epsom glory, so it easy to see the similarities this year and her price reflects that.
The John and Thady Gosden-trained Legacy Link (3/1) showed determination in the Musidora Stakes at York, pulling clear of the runner-up Felicitas in a strong battle to the line.
Her impeccable pedigree has made her a popular punters choice in our horse racing betting, what with her being a Juddmonte homebred with lineage including Frankel and Galileo.
Rider Colin Keane gave her a glowing report after the York feature, saying: “For the first half she was fresh and gassy, but from the bottom of the straight she was plain sailing. I’d imagine she’ll come on a lot from today. Epsom is a different test again, but I think she’ll appreciate going a mile and a half. I think that’s when we’ll see the best of her. She relaxes, lengthens and gallops and wanted every yard of that today.”
Winner of the William Hill Oaks Trial Fillies Stakes at Lingfield was the Aidan O’Brien-trained Cameo (12/1), and I am prepared to give her the “word up” in the Epsom Classic.
Sired by Wootton Bassett out of Zagitova (Galileo), Cameo was able to track Bloom into the straight before asserting in the closes stages to record a for a four-and-three-quarter-lengths victory.
Epsom Oaks Ante-Post Selection:
From previous experience, we all know that Aidan O’Brien doesn’t always land the Classics with his number one or two string, but occasionally scores with one of his runners further down the pecking order.
I’m therefore prepared to recommend an each-way flutter on Cameo.
