ITV Racing Tips: Best Bets From Sandown, York and Chester

A focus on the televised ITV races, with William Hill News tipster Steve Mullington bringing you his thoughts on every race broadcast on the channel this Saturday.

The ITV Racing cameras will bring us a selection of eight tasty hors d’oeuvres on Saturday before the main meal starts next week. It will be the perfect prelude to the spectacle that is Royal Ascot which starts in earnest on Tuesday.

For punters, there is something for everyone on Saturday, from a fast and furious sprint over the minimum trip at Sandown, up to a middle-distance Listed affair on the Knavesmire.

13.32 SANDOWN – 1m1f Handicap

QUARTERMASTER showed some useful form to win over seven furlongs on his debut at Chelmsford racecourse in December 2025, but ran below that level under a penalty at Newmarket over 1m one month ago.

The three-year-old colt can go well on his handicap debut under Robert Havlin.

13:50 YORK – 1m4f Handicap (For Female Amateur Jockeys)

A rather underwhelming field for a race that regularly attracted 16+ horses rated in the high 80’s, only nine have been entered this year and just a handful are in the handicap proper.

Given this wide open opportunity, I reckon the dual purpose gelding ARQOOB can give the best jockey in the line-up, a stamina laid ride at a decent each-way price in our horse racing betting.

14:10 CHESTER – 7½f  Handicap 

PROUD NATION should have enough class to land his debut handicap on the Roodee from a decent enough draw.

Richard Fahey’s three-year-old looked tidy at York last September and this return to seven furlongs will suit him.

14:25 YORK – 7f Handicap

Course and distance scorer MIRABEAU won here in October 2024 when there was some juice in the ground and that will be the case again at the weekend.

At around odds of 12/1 in our sports betting, the four-year-old is an each-way play.

14:42 SANDOWN – 5f Scurry Stakes (Listed)

WORDS OF TRUTH (NAP) has won three of six starts, including the Group 2 Mill Reef at Newbury in September 2025.

The Godolphin horse acts on good to soft and good to firm, and will be a tough nut to crack here. He’s my NAPs table selection today.

15:00 YORK – 1m6f Grand Cup Stakes (Listed) 

Highly rated stayer GREGORY (NB) is a former Royal Ascot winner and can make a big impact on his return to the racetrack after 476 days away.

With just five rivals to contend with, you have to think the Gosden’s will have him spot on for today’s task in hand.

15:17 SANDOWN – 1m Handicap

Roger Varian’s RAAMMEE was well fancied here at the end of May but could only manage to finish two lengths behind Boyfriend.

The Persian King-gelding can now put his course experience to the fore over this race on the prestigious Sandown mile.

15:35 YORK – 6f Macmillan Sprint Handicap

Joanna Mason is no stranger to landing a big Yorkshire handicap on the Knavesmire and she is of great interest on the fairly weighted FORTIFICATION.

A winner here over five furlongs at the Dante meeting, I cannot see the extra furlong posing a problem to the Brian Ellison runner.
