ITV Racing Tips: All Eyes On Ascot And York This Saturday

ITV’s coverage on Saturday comes to our screens from Ascot and York with a total of seven televised races and William Hill News are here to preview the best of the action.

Ascot are holding their King George Weekend across Friday and Saturday, while York host their 6f Dash and the Group 2 York Stakes over 1m2½f.

ITV Racing Saturday Tips:

  • 1.30 York – Bayraat
  • 1.45 Ascot – Dark Issue
  • 2.00 York – Commanche Falls
  • 2.20 Ascot – Touleen (NAP)
  • 2.35 York – Royal Champion (NB)
  • 2.55 Ascot – Amazing Journey
  • 3.35 Ascot – Calandagan

Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington makes a selection in all seven ITV races:

1.30 York – 5f ‘Jump Jockeys’ Nunthorpe Handicap

Jump jockey’s aside, BAYRAAT is simply a horse in great form and with the assistance of Caoilin Quinn in the saddle, can go well at an each-way price in our sports betting.

The ten-year-old won nicely at Wetherby in June, then was just denied at Doncaster last time over an almost identical trip as today.

1.45 Ascot – 6f Princess Margaret Stakes (Group 3)

DARK ISSUE leads the way in the betting and it is easy to see why. She put in an impressive performance to finish 4th of 25 runners in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and arrives here off level weights.

At odds of 5/2, she’s a decent bet for win purposes.

2.00 York – 6f Dash Handicap

The Michael Dods-trained COMMANCHE FALLS is too big a price to ignore in the Dash, especially given his record on the Knavesmire.

The nine-tear-old is a course and distance winner at York and has placed in several more large field handicaps, making him an interesting each-way play.

2.20 Ascot – 1m Valiant Stakes (Group 3)

Trained by Owen Burrows, the filly TOULEEN (NAP) is a strong favourite to land this Group 3.

After a fast-finishing second place in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes, she should find this somewhat of a penalty kick.

2.35 York – 1m2½f York Stakes (Group 2)

ROYAL CHAMPION (NB) won this exact race last year and has proven top-tier form at York.

With just four other runners to contend with, Karl Burke’s eight-year-old can return to winning ways once more.

2.55 Ascot – 7f International Handicap

AMAZING JOURNEY is running under a penalty but remains 5lbs “well-in” in this handicap, so has to be of an each-way interest at the very least.

Saffie Osborne takes the ride for her father and that is almost a tip in itself.

3.35 Ascot – 1m4f King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Group 1)

This is the richest race of the day and top honours can go the way of the current top-rated horse in the world – CALANDAGAN.

Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, he won this race last year and has a stellar track record at Ascot. It will take a surprise underperformance to see him get beaten this weekend, and his price of 13/8 looks generous.
