European Athletics Championships Tips: 11th August

The 100 metres, 5000 metres, and men’s long jump take centre stage at the European Athletics Championships on Tuesday.

Here are our athletics betting tips:

Men’s 100 Metres

Lamont Marcell Jacobs is the fastest European in 2026. Only two other competitors – Romell Glave and Owen Ansah – have broken the 10-second mark this year in regular wind readings.

The betting markets tab Jacobs as the odds-on favourite here, as he chases a third consecutive European title after wins in Munich and Rome.

It is obviously hard to look past Jacobs, a former Olympic champion. Glave might be the only sprinter capable of beating Jacobs on his day, with the Brit boasting a season-best of 9.76.

Men’s Hammer Throw

Despite owning the longest throw in 2026, Yann Chaussinand has the third-shortest odds for the men’s hammer. Bence Halasz (7/4) and Mykhaylo Kokhan (10/3) are the two favourites for this event. Merlin Hummel, who is narrowly ahead of Chaussinand in the world rankings, is priced at 6/1.

Halasz’s best performance of the year was the most recent, coming only a couple of weeks ago. Volodymyr Myslyvcuk topped the qualifying field, though he didn’t break the 80-metre mark, which contributes to his odds of 10/1.

Chaussinand has value at his price of 11/2. We also like Pawel Fajdek at 13/2 after he threw 82.09 metres early last month.

Women’s 5000 Metres

Nadia Battocletti is as short as 1/7 to win the 5000 metres on Tuesday. Maureen Koster (4/1) has put in a faster time than Battocletti in 2026, but there’s no question the Italian is the woman to beat.

Battocletti won silver in Paris two summers ago, along with gold at the European Championships in Rome. She even won the World Indoor Championship earlier this year over 3,000 metres.

More comfortable over shorter distances, Sarah Healy was an indoor champion over 3,000 metres last year, but she’s never really shown she has the pace to live with Battocletti. Even at 34, Koster is the most likely runner to upset Battocletti.

Men’s Long Jump

An 8.66-metre jump at the end of last month saw Miltiadis Tentoglou blow the competition out of the water. A six-time European champion and two-time Olympic champion, Tentoglou is a long way ahead of the field in the men’s long jump.

Tentoglou won by 21 centimetres at the Gyulai István Memorial last month. Simon Batz, his nearest European challenger, didn’t compete in the qualifiers. Francesco Inzoli had the best performance on Monday, but an 8.34 isn’t going to be enough to beat Tentoglou.
