Bow Echo retirement rattles ante post markets
Big shake-up in QEII and Breeders’ Cup betting following Boughey announcement.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Bow Echo was beginning to assert himself as a legend of the Flat and a bit of a punters’ pal as well. His Guineas win was expensive for us, as was his triumph in the Sussex Stakes, but it was great to have a burgeoning superstar like him on the Flat and it’s a huge shame for everyone in racing.
“He was fancied to travel to America for the Breeders’ Cup Mile later in the season, where he was a warm order at 7/4, while he was a 5/1 chance to land the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot instead. It’s all change now, with Opera Ballo replacing him at the top of the Breeders’ Cup Mile betting at 9/4, while Gstaad is into 5/2 to win the big end-of-season mile race at Ascot.”
