PGA Tour Championship Round 3 Predictions: Everything To Play For Heading Into Saturday

Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard are tied for the Tour Championship lead through 36 holes. Scottie Scheffler still sits atop the golf betting markets at 3/1, however, with Hovland at 9/2.

Hovland and Gerrard are 10 under after two rounds. Chris Gotterup and Collin Morikawa sit at nine under, followed by Cameron Young (fresh off a 62 on Friday) and Scheffler on eight under.

Friday’s Winners and Losers

Young had five birdies on the front nine and closed his round with an eagle to post the joint-best score of the tournament.

Min Woo Lee, who shot 62 on Thursday, had a nightmare-inducing 73 on Friday, including a triple bogey on the fifth. The Australian has fallen to five shots off the lead.

Justin Rose shot 65 on Friday, leaving him five behind the leaders. Rose was near-perfect on the greens. Russell Henley joined Rose with a 65 after posting an even par score in the opening round.

With how low the scores have been at East Lake, even shooting one under represents a disappointing round. Xander Schauffele had a 71 on Friday, while poor putting cost Patrick Cantlay and Hideki Matsuyama en route to even-par rounds.

Tommy Fleetwood missed an opportunity after shooting 66 on Thursday.

Scheffler Rightly Favoured

Scheffler has made this course look pretty easy so far. He’s only two shots off the lead and ranks third in strokes gained tee to green.

The way Scheffler navigated the course on Friday was ominous for the rest of the field. It’s easy to see why he’s the favourite to win this event, even with Hovland and Gerard playing some exceptional golf so far.

Inconsistency on and around the greens has done for Rory McIlroy. The two-time Masters champion is seven shots back and 70/1 to win the Tour Championship.

Yes, Young struggled on Thursday. It’s still surprising that a guy only two shots back and coming off a 62 is available at 10/1 in the latest betting odds to win the event.

Young has delivered under pressure this year, including a win at the Players Championship, and he’s been accurate off the tee throughout the first 36 holes.

Gary Woodland has a significant lead over the field in strokes gained tee to green. He’s tied for 11th and would be higher up the leaderboard if he hadn’t suffered an agonising double bogey on the 16th.

Justin Rose is tied with Matt Fitzpatrick as the top Englishman with 36 holes to play. Rose shot a bogey-free 65 on Friday, while erratic play off the tee saw Fitzpatrick lose pace with the leaders.

Sure, the veteran hasn’t been in his best form of late, but he’s had success at East Lake in the past and looked very comfortable on Friday.
