This is the first time Karen Khachanov has been beyond the second round at the US Open since his semi-final run in 2022. Learner Tien is in the fourth round at this event for the first time after a five-set win over Jakub Menšík.

Nothing in Khachanov’s form suggested this was coming. He lost his last four matches before this tournament. Tien, a quarter-finalist in Melbourne, made a deep run in Montreal, but had been a bit hot and cold over the last few weeks.

How much will experience and fresher legs favour Khachanov? Will Tien benefit from the home support? It’s a tough match to call, but we fancy both players to get a set on the board.

Francisco Cerúndolo vs. Alexander Blockx Prediction

Both of these players pulled off shocking third-round wins. Alexander Blockx blew fifth-seed Flavio Cobolli away after losing the first set. Francisco Cerúndolo dug deep to come back from two sets down to beat Taylor Fritz.

It’s Blockx’s first Grand Slam fourth-round appearance. Cerúndolo has never reached a quarterfinal. One of these players will be in uncharted territory in the next round.

This promises to be a shootout. Cerúndolo’s forehand was monstrous in his comeback against Fritz. Blockx barely made a mistake as he hammered Cobolli. Blockx beat Cerúndolo on clay earlier this year – the Belgian is our pick for the win, but this could be an epic.

Naomi Osaka vs Elena Rybakina Prediction

The pick of the round of 16 matches, an in-form Naomi Osaka takes on Elena Rybakina, who could be the number one player in the world by the end of this tournament.

Pre-tournament concerns about Rybakina’s fitness have been banished with a string of straight sets wins. Osaka has gone the distance in her last two matches, and she lost to Rybakina in three sets in Toronto.

In general, Osaka seems to be enjoying her tennis more than in recent years. Rybakina at her best is incredibly hard to beat, but Osaka could sneak through if the Kazakh falls short.

Mirra Andreeva vs Anastasia Potapova Prediction

Mirra Andreeva, well fancied in sports betting odds for this contest, has been unstoppable so far. Yet to drop a set, Andreeva is heavily favoured over Anastasia Potapova. Potapova, though, has impressed too, with a straight-sets win over home favourite Amanda Anisimova.

Andreeva has won three of the four previous meetings, including at this event last year and on the clay of Linz earlier this season. Potapova owns a pretty underwhelming record on hard courts.

We fancy Andreeva to win this pretty comfortably, despite Potapova’s strong showing against Anisimova.
