ITV Racing Tips: First Law Heads Best Bets At Newmarket and Haydock This Saturday

This Saturday’s ITV Racing broadcast features a seven-race itinerary split between Newmarket and Haydock Park, highlighted by Group 1 action with the Cheveley Park and Middle Park Stakes, culminating in the feature event – The Cambridgeshire Handicap.

Our horse racing betting tipster Steven Mullington suggests a horse to follow in each one of the seven televised races:

1.22 Newmarket – 7f Jersey Lily Fillies’ Nursery Handicap 

Given Ralph Beckett’s excellent record with improving two-year-old fillies and the booking of top jockey Rossa Ryan, SIERRA BELLE can be backed with confidence in this Fillies’ Handicap.

The Juddmonte-owned filly is a daughter of Frankel which will make her a popular choice with punters anyway.

1.35 Haydock – 1m William Hill Epic Boosts Handicap

Course and distance winner ARCTIC THUNDER can get his season back on track this afternoon.

Ed Walker’s five-year-old gelding has a couple of recent wins on his resume, but will have to bounce back from a below-par effort at Ascot last time. To be fair, the draw didn’t do him any favours that afternoon.

1.55 Newmarket – 1m Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2)

Charlie Appleby initially hinted that the Group 3 Autumn Stakes in October might be FIRST LAW‘s (NAP) target, however they have come straight to this Group 2 so the team must be keen on his prospects.

Winner of the Listed Ascendant Stakes at Haydock last time, the form from that racecourse always tends to stand up elsewhere.

2.10 Haydock – 5f William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap 

Sam England’s TRILBY (NB) will attract plenty of each-way support in our betting given his recent consistency over minimum trips.

A decent sixth in last week’s Silver Cup at Ayr, this drop back to five furlongs will really aid the six-year-old and I can’t see him finishing out of the frame.

2.27 Newmarket – 6f Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1)

Trained by George Boughey, LIBERTANGO landed the Albany at Royal Ascot with her sole defeat coming at the hooves of Senorita Bonita.

However she bounced back in style to claim the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York and at 4/1 for this race, she’s a major threat.

3.00 Newmarket – 6f Middle Park Stakes (Group 1)

The unbeaten INNER CITY BLUES for Godolphin inherits the favouritism and is well touted to chalk up victory number three.

Charlie Appleby’s juveniles are flying, and this colt can make the natural leap to Group 1 company.

3.40 Newmarket – 1m1f Cambridgeshire Handicap

HARMONICS could well be playing the right tune come 3.50pm on Saturday if all goes to plan for the Gosden-trained three-year-old.

He recently caught the eye when stepping up to Group 3 company in the Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor on September 7, where he stayed on well to finish a highly respectable third.

That is impressive form for sure, with this being a marked drop down in class for the Shane Foley ridden runner, and I would make him a solid each-way play in this huge field.
