WSL Predictions: Man City to Pile More Misery on Arsenal?
The Women’s Super League returns this weekend with three standout fixtures on Sunday, including a huge clash between Manchester City and Arsenal.
City are 13/10 to beat Arsenal, with the Gunners 29/20 and the draw 5/2, while Chelsea are heavily fancied at 2/13 to beat West Ham.
Earlier in the afternoon, Tottenham face London City Lionesses, with Spurs 6/4, the visitors 11/8 and the draw 23/10.
London City Lionesses narrowly head the market
Tottenham welcome London City Lionesses at 2pm, with very little separating the two sides in the betting.
London City are 11/8 favourites, while Tottenham are 6/4, with the draw 23/10.
Spurs have made an excellent start to the campaign and currently sit second in the WSL after four matches, following an impressive 4-0 victory over Aston Villa last weekend. Victoria Pelova scored twice in that win and has four league goals already this season.
London City have also enjoyed a strong opening, sitting fourth after four matches following a 2-0 victory over Brighton last weekend.
With such a tight betting market, this could be one of the most competitive fixtures of the weekend.
Chelsea heavily fancied at West Ham
Chelsea are the shortest-priced side across these three matches at 2/13 to beat West Ham, with the Hammers 12/1 and the draw 11/2.
Chelsea remain unbeaten after four league matches and moved up to third following their 1-0 victory over Arsenal last weekend. Alyssa Thompson scored the only goal as Sonia Bompastor’s side held on for a significant win.
West Ham, meanwhile, were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in their most recent outing.
The prices make Chelsea clear favourites, with their 2/13 quote reflecting the expectation that they will continue their unbeaten start.
Manchester City face Arsenal test
The standout fixture of the weekend comes at 4:30pm as Manchester City host Arsenal.
City are 13/10 to claim victory, while Arsenal are 29/20, with the draw 5/2.
It is a particularly intriguing contest given City’s perfect start. They sit top of the WSL with four wins from four, while Arsenal suffered their first league defeat of the season against Chelsea last weekend.
City have already shown their title credentials, most recently beating newly promoted Charlton 1-0 to maintain their 100 per cent record. Arsenal, meanwhile, will be looking to respond immediately after the narrow defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The prices suggest there is little between the sides, with neither team shorter than 13/10.
The predictions
Chelsea are the standout selection on price, while Tottenham v London City looks particularly difficult to separate.
The biggest question of the weekend comes at the top of the table, where Manchester City will look to maintain their perfect record against an Arsenal side looking for a response.
Predictions:
- London City Lionesses to beat Tottenham
- Chelsea to beat West Ham
- Manchester City to beat Arsenal
