William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “With Elfyn Evans becoming the first British driver to win the World Rally Championship in 25 years, he has entered the reckoning for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
“Evans has been added to the SPOTY market at 50/1 but still trails several names in the betting. The likes of Amy Hunt (EVS) and Josh Kerr (5/2) hold strong positions in the market after outstanding seasons on the athletics track.
“However, we have seen British rally drivers make a podium finish for the award in the past – namely 1995 World Rally Championship Winner Colin McRae – so there’s certainly precedent to suggest Evans is in with a chance.”
