ITV Racing Tips: Super Saturday Of Selections From Newmarket And York
The ITV Racing team will be bringing viewers all the action from Newmarket and York on Saturday afternoon.
As well as the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, the big betting heat of the day at Newmarket is the 2m2f Cesarewitch Handicap, while the three live races from York include the Listed Rockingham Stakes.
Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington brings readers a selection in all eight of the ITV races:
1.15 Newmarket – 1m1f Darley Stakes (Group 3)
After securing a highly lucrative victory in the Grade 3 Mint Millions Invitational Stakes at Kentucky Downs last month, HAATEM returns to UK shores for a crack at this Grade 3.
If the five-year-old is in the same vein of form then he will be difficult to beat and I would advise you to pop him your LUCKY STABLE entry this weekend.
1.30 York – 6f Rockingham Stakes (Listed)
Course and distance scorer BIG CIGAR is the each-way angle here in what is a wide open looking Listed affair.
In July he justified favouritism, storming through to lead over 1f out and keeping on strongly to secure a decisive victory. A 55-day break will see him come back a fresh horse too.
1.50 Newmarket – 1m2f Zetland Stakes (Group 3)
DRUMBEAT (NAP) won a 1m nursery at Gowran Park in dominant fashion in September before running a decent third at the Curragh over a hard mile.
On ratings this Wootten Bassett-colt should have too much in the locker for his rivals.
2.05 York – 1m2½f Handicap
Wathan Racing-owned FRENCH DUKE has finished 1¼ lengths or less behind the winner on both of his two previous visits to the Knavesmire.
At odds of 14/1 in our horse racing betting, he’s a solid each-way contender.
2.25 Newmarket – 1m Autumn Stakes (Group 3)
TBT Racing have had one hell of a successful season with Ed Walker and their luck can continue with SOLE AMBITION in this Group 3.
A nice winner here over 7f a fortnight ago, this step up to a mile should suit.
3.00 Newmarket – 7f Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1)
Already heading our sports betting markets for next year’s 2,000 Guineas, DESERT CASTLE will shorten even further when he lands the top prize here.
The Frankel-colt romped home in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and something similar is expected in this Group 1.
3.17 York – 6f Sprint Trophy Handicap
U SURE DO can “strike” for a third time and continue his purple patch of form through to York.
The four-year-old is in peak fitness and looks sure to be in the mix, especially with Jake Dickson’s 5lb claim aiding his cause.
3.40 Newmarket – 2m2f Cesarewitch Handicap
Owned by JP McManus and trained by Joseph O’Brien, DAWN RISING appears to have been laid out for the “Ces” again this season.
Second in this race last year, Dawn Rising thrives on stamina tests and will come into his own in a contest of this nature.
So far this season he has shown nothing at inadequate trips, which leads me to believe that Saturday is THE day.
