Aintree Tips & Best Bets: Old Roan Card Topped By 4/1 NAP Of The Day

The William Hill Old Roan Chase raceday at Aintree Racecourse takes place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, combined with the annual Halloween Family Day.

Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington suggests some fiendishly good selections that won’t leave you feeling spooked at the payout window.

If ante-post selections are more your thing, you can check out our Cheltenham Festival antepost tips column – with updated selections throughout the jumps season.

12:40 – 3m½f Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

MOLTO BENE won around this time at Bangor on very similar ground to what he will experience on Sunday and holds a great each-way chance in the opener.

Charlie Longsdon has employed the services of 3lb claimer Daire McConville and the seven-year-old has gone well on his seasonal bow before.

13:15 – 2m4f Handicap Chase

Trainer Mel Rowley has a splendid record at Aintree’s auxiliary fixtures and I’m confident the yard will have GIMARIAS in peak condition for this first attempt at a handicap chase.

Charlie Deutsch always rides Aintree well and a switch to chasing for this six-year-old can bring a positive outcome.

13:50 – 2m Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

Fine Claret Racing are pretty excited about the prospects of HE’S BRESILIAN this weekend and the six-year-old gelding can make hay from his low weight in this handicap hurdle.

Sired by Blue Bresil, the gelding can make a bold bid from the front under Sean Quinlan.

14:25 – 3m1f Veterans’ Handicap Chase

With the O’Neill team firing on all cylinders at present, MONBEG GENIUS (NAP) is the logical betting choice in this popular veteran’s contest.

Still rated a fairly lofty 142, the ten-year-old was third in last season’s Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival and will be in the thick of things.

15:00 – 2m4f William Hill Old Roan Handicap Chase (Grade 2)

The Harry Durham-trained TEDDY BLUE (NB) is a little bit of an in-and-out character, but he does have some decent form at Grade 2 level and can be an each-way play in our horse racing betting.

Paul O’Brien and Harry Derham are turning into quite a formidable team at this level and Teddy Blue can give them more successes along the way.

15:35 – 2m4f Handicap Hurdle

Noel Fehiliy Racing love getting winners at both Aintree and Haydock, and their previous course and distance scorer KAMSINAS should be ready to do himself justice on Sunday.

A five-time winner already from 21 starts, the nine-year-old is a solid pick to include in your multiple bets, etc.

16:10 – 2m1f Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race

Disco Dave can continue his 60th birthday celebrations in style by punting on Lucinda Russell’s DOUBLE ANNIE in the lucky last, the Mares’ bumper.

Russell has saddled several bumper winners at this fixture over the years, and this winning pointer is an interesting recruit to the stable. She could well turn out to be a star of the future.
