US Midterms Odds: Democrats odds-on to control House and Senate with five days to go
The Democrats are odds-on with William Hill to control both the House of Representatives and Senate following the US midterm elections, with five days remaining until polling day on Tuesday 3 November.
The bookmaker makes Democratic control of both chambers its 4/9 favourite in the Balance of Power market, implying a probability of approximately 69%.
A divided Congress, featuring a Democratic House and Republican Senate, is the next most likely outcome according to the betting at 11/4.
Republican control of both chambers is priced at 6/1, while a Republican House and Democratic Senate is the outsider at 80/1.
The two shortest-priced outcomes both feature a Democratic House, with the market pointing towards the Senate as the more competitive chamber as the campaign enters its final days.
Balance of Power Odds:
- Democratic House and Senate – 4/9
- Democratic House / Republican Senate – 11/4
- Republican House and Senate – 6/1
- Republican House / Democratic Senate – 80/1
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “With five days until polling day, we make Democrat control of both the House and Senate the most likely outcome in our Balance of Power market at 4/9.
“The closest alternative is a Democrat House and Republican Senate at 11/4, so our market points towards the Democrats taking the House, with the Senate the more competitive chamber of Congress.
“Republican control of both chambers is a bigger price at 6/1, while a Republican House and Democrat Senate is very much the outsider at 80/1.”
